Project Manager - Type 26 Combat Systems GFX and Obsolescence

Maritime Naval Ships are pleased to announce this opportunity for a Project Manager - Type 26 Combat Systems GFX and Obsolescence. This role sits within the PM function and can be based out of any Naval Ships site – hybrid working.

Sitting within the Type 26 Combat Systems delivery organisation, you will operate as a Programme Manager with accountability for Government Furnished Assets (GFA) and Obsolescence Management across the Type 26 Global Combat Ship Combat Systems programme.

The scope of the role spans the end-to-end management of Combat Systems GFA activity, including oversight of GFA delivery into the build programme, management of contractual GFA obligations, the transfer of Government Furnished Equipment (GFE/GFX) to BAE Systems procurement responsibility, and leadership of Combat Systems obsolescence activities. The role also supports strategic growth opportunities, including export and new business initiatives such as Norway programme bids.

The Type 26 Global Combat Ship contains 77 Systems that are provided to the programme as Government Furnished Equipment. Each system has an appropriately tailored procurement pack that details all the associated supporting material that needs to be provided; in total approximately 250,000 individual CDRLs that need to be managed across the platform. As the system integrator, the BAE Systems Type 26 Team is responsible for fully integrating those systems into the Ship, on a ship by ship basis.

As the T26 GFX Manager, you will be accountable to the Type 26 Combat and Complex System Delivery Director, for the execution of the GFA elements of the Type 26 Head Contract;

· Clause 9

· Schedule 1 Part 2 Annex 1 GFA Management Statement of Work

· Schedule 1 Part 2 Annex 2 (GFA Transfer Statement of Work)

· Schedule 7 (Government Furnished Assets)

In the execution of the role, you will have a significant role in the management of MOD as a supplier and this requires excellent communication, diplomacy and negotiation skills to preserve the relationship in what is an extremely complex commercial environment and therefore critical to the success of the overall programme.

As the Combat Systems Obsolescence Lead, you will drive the identification, assessment and mitigation of obsolescence risks affecting in-service and future capability delivery. You will work closely with engineering, supply chain and customer teams to develop and implement sustainable solutions, safeguarding programme performance, reducing lifecycle risk and maintaining operational capability.

Your main responsibilities as Project Manager - Type 26 Combat Systems GFX and Obsolescence:

§ Act as the focal point between BAE Systems Type 26 and the Ministry of Defence Type 26 Combat Systems GFA Programme Management team and Team Leader.

§ Lead the management and successful discharge of all Type 26 contractual GFA requirements.

§ Lead Combat Systems obsolescence management, ensuring risks are identified, assessed and mitigated effectively.

§ Develop and deliver plans for the transfer of GFX from Government Furnished Asset arrangements to BAE Systems procurement responsibility.

§ Maintain alignment between MoD and Type 26 GFA contractual baselines, ensuring compliance and performance against programme commitments.

§ Coordinate cross-functional teams to resolve GFA delivery issues and protect programme milestones.

§ Support new business and growth opportunities, including export campaigns and bid activities such as the Norway programme.

§ Drive proactive risk, opportunity and dependency management across GFA and obsolescence activities.

§ Influence internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of programme, customer and business objectives

Your skills and qualifications:

· Degree-level qualification or equivalent professional experience gained through extensive application within Project Management or Project Controls environments.

· Professionally recognised PM qualification (e.g. APM, PMI) or significant demonstrable experience at a senior level within complex programmes.

· Recognised LCM/IBR Assessor (or equivalent), with experience contributing to governance and assurance activities.

· Excellent Influencing skills across senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams to drive alignment, resolve issues and improve delivery performance.

· External supplier experience with strong communication skills.
