Job Title: Project Setup Analyst
Job Description
This role focuses on leading project setup activities within Microsoft Dynamics for an architecture, engineering, construction, environmental consulting, or professional services environment. The Project Setup Analyst ensures accurate project structures, billing terms, and revenue recognition rules while acting as a key liaison between project, contracts, and accounting teams. The position supports revenue integrity, contract compliance, and effective financial reporting across the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a primary liaison between Project Managers, Business Managers, Contracts, and Project Accounting teams throughout the project setup process.
- Review and approve all project setups before transitioning them to the Project Accounting team to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Establish accurate project structures, billing terms, contract requirements, and revenue recognition rules within Microsoft Dynamics.
- Build, configure, and review Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and project coding to support accurate project tracking, billing, and financial reporting.
- Analyze contracts and project documentation to ensure project setups align with contractual requirements and internal company policies.
- Partner with Project Managers to design efficient project structures that support project execution, billing needs, and reporting requirements.
- Review project transactions, labor charges, and cost allocations to identify potential revenue generation or billing issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Validate revenue recognition and billing configurations in Microsoft Dynamics to ensure accurate revenue generation and financial integrity.
- Provide guidance, training, and best practices on project setup, WBS design, contract compliance, and project financial controls to project stakeholders.
- Troubleshoot project setup discrepancies in Microsoft Dynamics and collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues and implement corrective actions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to project setup workflows, financial processes, and system usage within Microsoft Dynamics.
- Maintain strong communication with cross-functional teams to ensure timely and accurate project initialization and ongoing financial compliance.
Essential Skills
- Strong industry experience in architecture, engineering, construction, environmental consulting, or professional services.
- Previous experience in a project finance-related role such as Project Analyst, Project Controls Analyst, Project Accountant, or similar position.
- Deep understanding of project setup processes, Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), and project lifecycle management.
- Proven experience reviewing contracts and translating contract requirements into project financial systems and configurations.
- Strong knowledge of project billing, revenue recognition, project accounting, and financial controls.
- Hands-on experience working with Microsoft Dynamics in a project-based accounting environment.
- Proficiency in project setup within Microsoft Dynamics, including configuration of billing terms and revenue rules.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills to support analysis, tracking, and reporting of project financial data.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with Project Managers, Contracts teams, and Accounting partners in a cross-functional environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on revenue accuracy and financial integrity.
- Ability to interpret and implement Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) and project coding for accurate tracking and reporting.

- Experience working in an AEC-focused organization or similar professional services environment.
- Familiarity with project-based financial controls and compliance frameworks.
- Ability to document and share best practices related to project setup and financial processes.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial and system concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented approach with a commitment to accuracy and consistency in project and financial data.
- Comfort working in a remote environment while maintaining strong collaboration with distributed teams.
Work Environment
This is a remote role that supports a project-based, professional services environment within the architecture, engineering, construction, or related industries. The position operates primarily within Microsoft Dynamics for project setup, billing, and revenue recognition, and uses Microsoft Excel for analysis and reporting. Standard working hours are 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Time, requiring consistent availability during this schedule to collaborate with Project Managers, Contracts teams, and Accounting partners. The work focuses on a structured, process-driven setting that emphasizes accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement in financial workflows.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Sparks, MD.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $38.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
