Project Specialist

The Project Specialist supports the successful execution of electric distribution design projects for CPS Energy by coordinating project activities throughout the project lifecycle. This role serves as a key liaison between customers, project managers, engineers, designers, construction personnel, permitting agencies, and utility stakeholders to ensure projects progress on schedule, meet quality standards, and comply with CPS Energy requirements.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, customer-focused, and experienced in utility operations, electric distribution design, project coordination, or construction support. This position plays a critical role in maintaining project documentation, facilitating communication, tracking project milestones, and supporting the delivery of reliable electric infrastructure improvements throughout the CPS Energy service territory.

Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Administration

• Coordinate electric distribution design projects from initiation through construction closeout.
• Manage project work requests, schedules, deliverables, approvals, and documentation.
• Monitor project milestones and proactively identify schedule risks or bottlenecks.
• Maintain accurate project records, status reports, and project tracking systems.
• Support project managers with resource planning, workload tracking, and project reporting.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement

• Serve as a primary point of contact for customers throughout the project lifecycle.
• Communicate project status, milestones, design requirements, and construction updates.
• Coordinate meetings with customers, CPS Energy representatives, municipalities, contractors, and internal project teams.
• Respond to inquiries and facilitate issue resolution to ensure a positive customer experience.

Electric Distribution Design Support

• Collaborate with designers and engineers supporting overhead and underground electric distribution projects.
• Review project packages for completeness and coordinate design revisions as needed.
• Assist with constructability reviews, field verification activities, and design readiness assessments.
• Support quality assurance and quality control reviews of project documentation and design deliverables.
• Coordinate project activities related to feeder upgrades, service extensions, relocations, reliability improvements, and customer-driven projects.

Permitting & Regulatory Coordination

• Facilitate permit applications, approvals, and agency coordination activities.
• Track permit status and ensure compliance with applicable municipal, environmental, and utility requirements.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies and utility stakeholders to support project execution.

Construction & Field Support

• Support construction teams by tracking project readiness, approvals, material requirements, and field activities.
• Coordinate resolution of design, construction, and customer-related issues.
• Monitor project progress and communicate updates to project stakeholders.
• Assist with project closeout documentation and turnover requirements.

Financial & Reporting Support

• Assist with project budgeting, forecasting, invoicing, and financial tracking activities.
• Review project costs and support invoice processing and customer billing activities.
• Generate routine project reports, metrics, and management summaries.
• Maintain documentation supporting project financial performance and customer agreements.

Required Qualifications

• Experience supporting electric utility, engineering, construction, telecommunications, infrastructure, or related projects.
• Experience coordinating multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting CPS Energy projects or utility customer programs.
• Knowledge of electric distribution systems, utility construction practices, and design processes.
