Make a Global impact with ASC - Setting the Standard for Seafood

ASC International - Aquaculture Stewardship Council is an independent, non-profit organisation, originally founded by WWF in 2010. We are committed to continuous improvement of global seafood farming practices towards environmental and social sustainability.

This is a full time, fixed term contract for 12 months with possible extension. Remote & flexible working.

Circa 40,000 to 48,000 GBP per annum varying based on locations, experience and skills.

This role is UK based, however other locations within Europe may be considered.

Why this role?

We are seeking a knowledgeable, organised and highly collaborative Project Technical Coordinator – Health and Welfare to join our Standards and Science team for an initial 12-month fixed-term period.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of ASC's responsible animal health and welfare work, with a specific focus on this shrimp slaughter project.

You will support the development and implementation of project activities focused on applied technology, animal welfare and responsible practices within shrimp aquaculture.

Working closely with the Standards Manager – Health & Welfare and Project Managers across ASC, you will help ensure that project activities, timelines, resources, budgets and deliverables are effectively coordinated and managed.

You will be a confident influencer and strong organiser, able to engage with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders. You will bring structure, momentum and excellent coordination skills to complex projects involving researchers, technology developers, producers and other stakeholders around the world.

A key element of the role will involve supporting on-site activities, including the application and reporting of ASC animal welfare and shrimp standards. You will also contribute to impact and value reporting, helping shape the development of ASC standards and animal welfare approaches into the future.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain project schedules across multiple phased workstreams, including the research agenda, method evaluation, SOP development and field trial coordination.
  • Coordinate project activities, timelines, deliverables and resources to ensure work remains aligned with agreed objectives.
  • Track project budgets and monitor expenditure against allocated budgets, identifying variances and supporting forecasting.
  • Coordinate meetings and workshops, including scheduling, agenda-setting, minute-taking and follow-up action tracking.
  • Support the commissioning of external researchers and technology providers, including contracts, deliverable tracking and invoice coordination.
  • Act as a key connective point between the Standards Manager – Health & Welfare, Project Managers and external stakeholders.
  • Maintain a central repository of project documentation, ensuring effective version control and accessibility of key project information.
  • Compile project status, impact and value reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate workstreams involving equipment trials, field activities and technology developers.
  • Track technical specifications, animal welfare indicators and validation protocols, ensuring outputs remain aligned with project objectives.
  • Support technology demonstrations, farm site visits and knowledge-sharing activities with diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Help coordinate and guide the practical application of ASC animal welfare and shrimp standards in relevant settings.
  • Support the translation of technical and scientific findings into clear, practical guidance for producers and supply-chain audiences.
  • Work collaboratively across ASC teams and with external partners to maintain project momentum and deliver agreed outcomes.
  • Contribute to impact and value reporting and lessons learned to inform future ASC standards development

Profile:

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Qualification or experience in aquaculture or aquatic animal welfare, with a shrimp/crustacean specialism, knowledge or interest. Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in aquaculture, marine science, animal welfare, sustainability or a related field; postgraduate qualification or specialist experience an advantage.
  • Ability to create and present technical/scientific content, adapting it for non-specialist audiences such as producers and supply-chain partners.
  • Proven ability to coordinate and influence a diverse group of stakeholders (e.g. researchers, technology developers, producers, internal teams) towards a common goal.
  • Strong project management skills, with proficiency in relevant tools and methodologies (e.g. Monday.com).
  • Understanding of donor-funded project management, including reporting requirements, budget tracking, impact, deliverables and value.
  • Genuine interest in ASC's mission for responsible aquaculture, with a focus on shrimp welfare

Bonus if you have:

  • Knowledge of animal welfare technologies, specifically on shrimp slaughter, welfare monitoring and/or industry best practices.
  • Understanding of aquaculture standards, certification and/or sustainability programmes.

Please one-click apply. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a two-stage selection process where interviews will generally be held via Teams.

Salary Circa 40,000 to 48,000 GBP per annum varying based on locations, experience and skills. Minimum of 25 days holiday, pro-rata as accrued, with generous local benefits, wellbeing and workstation grants each year and a free coffee each week on ASC.
