JOB TITLE: Google Cloud Engineer

SALARY: £72,702 - £80,780
LOCATION: Manchester
HOURS: Full time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of your time, at one of our office sites.

About this opportunity

Join us as a Google Cloud Engineer and help shape one of the UK’s largest cloud transformations.

You’ll join our Cloud Platform team, building secure, scalable and reusable cloud capabilities that support analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning and digital services across the Group. Your work will help engineering teams deliver more quickly, safely and consistently while improving the experience of developing and operating products on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).

Working alongside engineering, security, architecture and product teams, you'll have the opportunity to influence platform standards, improve developer productivity and create cloud capabilities used at scale across the organisation.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Design, build and operate secure, scalable cloud infrastructure and platform services on Google Cloud Platform.
  • Develop reusable infrastructure patterns and Terraform modules that enable consistent, automated cloud deployments.
  • Improve engineering productivity through automation, self-service tooling, CI/CD pipelines and platform capabilities.
  • Translate security, risk and policy requirements into automated controls and guardrails that support safe cloud adoption.
  • Create and enhance developer experiences through documentation, templates, workflows and platform automation.
  • Take ownership of platform features from design through to delivery, contributing to operational excellence and continuous improvement.

You’ll also participate in an out-of-hours support rota and help shape engineering standards, tooling and ways of working across the Cloud Platform team.

Why Lloyds Banking Group

We’re on an exciting journey to transform our Group and the way we’re shaping finance for good. We’re focusing on the future, investing in our technologies, workplaces, and colleagues to make our Group a great place for everyone.

Join us and you’ll work on technology that supports millions of customers while developing your skills alongside experienced cloud, platform and security engineers. This is an opportunity to make a real impact, work with modern technologies and help build cloud capabilities that support the future of the organisation.

What you'll need

  • Strong experience designing, deploying and managing secure, scalable solutions on Google Cloud Platform, including identity and access management, networking, observability and core cloud services.
  • Experience building and maintaining Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, including reusable modules, standard deployment patterns and automated delivery pipelines.
  • Software engineering and automation experience using technologies such as Python, Go or Bash to develop tooling, automation and CI/CD solutions.
  • Experience implementing cloud security controls and governance practices, translating security and risk requirements into effective engineering solutions.
  • Experience delivering platform engineering capabilities that improve developer experience through reusable services, self-service tooling and automation.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to take ownership of complex technical challenges and deliver practical, scalable solutions.

We know that great talent comes from many backgrounds. If you have relevant cloud engineering experience and transferable skills, we’d love to hear from you, even if your experience doesn’t meet every requirement listed above.

And any experience of this would be really useful

  • Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools or GenAI technologies to improve developer productivity, platform operations or automation.
  • Experience supporting production services using site reliability engineering practices, observability and monitoring tooling such as Dynatrace.
  • Experience developing self-service engineering platforms and developer enablement capabilities using tools such as Backstage, Open Policy Agent (OPA), Rego, Wiz or Google Cloud security tooling.
