Salary £37,563 - £42,123 | Full time, Permanent | Adults, Health and Wellbeing | Preston

About the role...

Are you passionate about tackling health inequalities and helping build the conditions for everyone to live well, thrive and reach their full potential?

We are looking for a motivated and proactive team member to join Lancashire County Council's Wider Determinants of Health team as a Public Health Practitioner.

From influencing local policy and decision-making to working closely with partners across local government, communities, academia and the wider public sector, the team aims to create healthier places, stronger communities and better opportunities for all.

As a Practitioner, you'll play a key role in championing health equity and using evidence to inform action to improve the wider determinants of health and wellbeing. You will be involved in driving forward and supporting exciting and impactful work programmes, including gambling harm prevention. You'll also have the opportunity to learn more about and - where possible - contribute to a range of wider initiatives, from shaping planning and licensing policy to advancing digital inclusion and healthier advertising across Lancashire.

We are looking for someone with a keen eye for detail, an ability to multi-task, review and interpret evidence, build positive working relationships and communicate effectively across teams and organisations.

If you are motivated to learn, passionate about improving population health, and meet the requirements of the Person Specification, we would love to hear from you.

Please note, some travel within Lancashire will be required for this role to meetings and events as these are identified.

Job Description and Person Specification

Please ensure you attach a supporting statement showing how you meet the criteria for the role as outlined in the Person Specification.

For further information or an initial informal discussion, please contact:

Stephanie Kirby: Senior Public Health Practitioner - stephanie.kirby@lancashire.gov.uk

Interviews will be held on Tuesday 24th November and Thursday 26th November in-person at County Hall, Preston.

Additional Information...

In return Lancashire County Council offers a range of benefits, which can be found on LCC Vacancies website.

We reserve the right to close down a vacancy early, before the closing date, if we receive sufficient applications.

Local Government Reorganisation

The Government has confirmed that local government across Lancashire will be reorganised, with the current 15 councils being replaced by four new unitary councils covering North, South, East and West Lancashire from April 2028.

If you are successful in your application, you will initially join Lancashire County Council. However, as part of the planned transition, your employment will transfer to one of the new unitary councils from April 2028, subject to the implementation of the reorganisation and relevant employment legislation.

Throughout this period, our focus remains on delivering excellent services to our communities. By joining us now, you'll play an important role in shaping the future of local government and helping to build a strong new organisation that will serve residents for years to come.
