We are pleased to offer an outstanding and substantive internship program for the nation's best and brightest young leaders.

At the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, you will obtain a hands-on, meaningful work experience designed to meet your academic and career goals. Our internships offer opportunities in research, writing, database management, policy, communications, and event preparation.

During the internship, you will network with colleagues and senior executives while participating in educational and professional activities designed to enhance your experience.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

The Chamber Internship Program is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn at the world's largest business organization. In addition to directly supporting a team in the organization, interns have an opportunity to participate in a variety of programming that will help build professional skills and networks.

Responsibilities for interns typically include research, drafting memos, content creation, and event planning and coordination. Specific responsibilities vary by department and semester.

The Chamber also offers robust programming each semester to support professional development and networking for interns. These opportunities include company-wide meetings and social events, intern-exclusive discussions with senior executives such as the CEO, the Chief Policy Officer, and the President of the Foundation, as well as a resume review and interview preparation workshop.

The internship is expected to run from February 1 through April 9. Interns work a part-time hybrid schedule and are expected to be in the office at least three days a week at our U.S. Chamber of Commerce headquarters in downtown Washington, D.C. Fully remote applicants will not be considered. Interns will be responsible for making their own housing accommodations if needed.

This is a paid internship, and students may also receive academic credit if they meet the criteria set by their school. The hourly rate for this position is between $18.00 and $20.00 per hour. This internship is open to current college or graduate students, as well as individuals who have graduated within the past six months.

DEPARTMENT MATCHING

The Public Policy & Advocacy teams shape U.S. and global policy on critical issues including economic growth, energy, cybersecurity, employment, healthcare, and strategic advocacy. Interns will support policy research, legislative tracking, stakeholder engagement, and communications efforts that advance the Chamber’s pro-business priorities across public and private sectors.

After you submit your resume, our Talent Acquisition team will review it. If your skills match what we are looking for, the relevant department will reach out for an interview.

Please review the departments below closely. In the application, please indicate your top two department preferences.

Cyber, Space, & National Security Policy
The National Security Policy division advocates on behalf of the Chamber's members who have a direct stake in cybersecurity, defense, space, and supply chain security policy. Interns support the team with preparation, research, and materials for major events including the March Aerospace event and roundtables across cyber, space, and defense, as well as international trip preparation. This role is ideal for candidates with an interest in national security, technology policy, and Capitol Hill engagement.

Economic Policy
The U.S. Chamber's Economic Policy team serves as an in-house quantitative resource for member companies, state and local chambers, and policy teams across the building. Interns play a hands-on role tracking economic data releases and trends to support outlook briefings, assisting as quantitative consultants on domestic and international policy work, and exploring new applications of AI in the team's day-to-day operations. This is a great fit for candidates with a strong interest in economics, data analysis, and applied policy research.

Employment Policy
The Employment Policy team advances the Chamber's workforce, education, and labor policy priorities on behalf of American businesses. Interns take on substantive ownership across three core areas: supporting planning and execution of the Child Care Fly-In (a key grant deliverable), revamping the America Works homepage to strengthen external communications on education and workforce issues, and helping prepare members for ILO negotiations on chemical hazards and AI in the workplace. This role is ideal for candidates interested in labor policy, workforce development, and international employer advocacy.

Global Energy Institute
The U.S. Chamber's Global Energy Institute unifies energy stakeholders and policymakers behind a common strategy to ensure America's supply of fuel and power is adequate, stable, and affordable, while protecting national security and improving the environment. Interns support the team across three core areas: event logistics and stakeholder engagement for high-profile convenings, policy research across the electric generation, permitting, and international energy portfolios, and strategic communications including one-pagers, blog posts, newsletters, and briefing materials. A great fit for candidates interested in energy policy, advocacy, and the intersection of policy and communications.

Government Affairs
The Government Affairs division is the Chamber's lobbying team, headquartered in Washington with regional offices across the country, championing pro-business priorities and advocating for America's free enterprise system on Capitol Hill. Interns support the team with congressional hearing preparation, drafting member briefing profiles, organizing testimony materials, tracking legislation, and supporting policy forums and Hill activities. Interns are also encouraged to attend Hill meetings and events, gaining firsthand exposure to the legislative process and the Chamber's advocacy work.

Housing Policy

The Housing Policy team leads the Chamber’s national initiative to address America’s housing shortage by advancing pro-growth policies that increase housing supply and affordability. Interns support the team across three core areas: land use and permitting reform, housing finance and capital access, and workforce and immigration policy. Responsibilities include policy research, legislative tracking, stakeholder engagement, and communications support to advance the Chamber’s housing advocacy efforts. This role is ideal for candidates interested in housing policy, economic growth, and public policy development.

Chamber Technology Engagement Center
The Chamber Technology Engagement Center (C_TEC) is at the forefront of the Chamber's work on emerging technology policy, including artificial intelligence, robotics, and quantum computing. Interns play a direct role in drafting white papers on these cutting-edge topics and tracking technology legislation across states — work that directly shapes the Chamber's policy positions and thought leadership. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates passionate about technology policy, innovation, and the future of the digital economy.

Applications are accepted until Thursday, October 12. Interviews will be conducted in November & December.

This internship requires U.S. work authorization and is open to candidates with Curricular Practical Training (CPT) and/or Optional Practical Training (OPT).

We provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.
