Apply now and become a part of our exciting journey! Job Summary: The Public Projects Manager is a subject matter expert in the interaction of railroads and the traveling public. They will negotiate on behalf of the client on public agency projects that have potential impacts to railroad infrastructure and right of way. With experience, knowledge, and quality relationships, the Public Projects Manager aims to find win-win opportunities that reduce risk to the railroad. This is a remote position. Candidates should reside in Wisconsin (preferred) or in a bordering area of Minnesota, Northeast Iowa, Northern Illinois, or Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The successful candidate must be willing to travel throughout Wisconsin for crossing diagnostics and on-site project meetings. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Manage railroad public projects from concept through construction completion on behalf of agencies, railroads, or contractors. Project types may include at-grade crossings, grade separations, parallel roads, quiet zones, trails, drainage improvements, railroad coordination, etc. Lead and develop projects within the Public Projects group as well as other RailPros opportunities that have highway-rail grade crossing aspects Draft Scope and Fee (Project Proposals) Prepare and review plans, cost estimates, agreements, and agency permitting applications Perform due diligence on crossing. history to prepare for onsite crossing diagnostics Schedule on-site meetings and put together pertinent information for meetings Run reports and follow up on tasks regularly to ensure compliance with client requirements Track construction projects for key milestone markers to ensure timing of approvals, materials, construction crews, and equipment Develop other opportunities Manage public projects budget and OE This position will require 50% travel On occasion, travel to client offices, work sites, other project-related locations, RailPros Field Offices as well as RailPros HQ will be required Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture, free from behaviors that undermine morale, productivity, or organizational values Uphold the organization’s standards of integrity, accountability, and respect in all duties and interactions Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulation Other duties as assigned or required to meet the business needs Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Proficiency with electronic communication including e-mail and text, as well as standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite) Possess exceptional oral and written communication skills Proficient in drafting, review, and executing multiparty agreements Negotiate critical and controversial issues with top-level engineers and officers of other organizations and companies Conduct presentations and may participate in media interviews Represent the organization at important functions or conferences, including media interviews as required Knowledge of railroad on track safety and flagging protection, railroad agreements, right of way and construction methodologies Knowledge of railroad construction standards, AREMA, MUTCD and be able to read and understand civil roadway, bridge, and track plans Required Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program or equivalent experience In-depth knowledge of industry standards and guidelines Preferred Education and Experience: Engaged in life-long learning to maintain knowledge of contemporary issues Established relationships with railroad clients Business development skills Additional Qualifications, Certifications, etc.: Engineer in Training (EIT) Professional Engineer (PE) Member of professional practice organization, recognized expert on national activity or spokesperson for the profession Why RailPros?
