Shelly Meyer WHAT DEPARTMENT IS THIS IN? 5450 Lewis & Clark Work Study, Office of Communications WHEN DOES THIS POSITION BEGIN (AND END, IF APPLICABLE? 2026-09-04 - JOB PURPOSE: To support the Office of Communications in the preparation, production, and curation of quality L&C-related news content. Position is remote with Zoom check-ins. EXPERIENCE/SKILLS GAINED: News gathering: Conduct in-person or Zoom interviews, investigate story leads, and verify source information. Writing and editing: Draft compelling copy, apply style guidelines, and refine text for clarity. Project management: Track your work in Trello, a user-friendly project management tool that's used widely in professional settings. Resume material: Gain resume-building experience that employers value, particularly in fields such as journalism, for-profit and nonprofit communications, public relations, marketing, fundraising, and sales. By working with our office's professional writers and editors, you will sharpen your communication skills and be better positioned for post-graduation career opportunities. You will also develop projects and materials for your portfolio and learn about the inner workings of a college communications office. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Primary Responsibility: - Writing stories for the online newsroom at lclark.edu/news Secondary Responsibility: - General support for L&C's communications efforts QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated interest and ability in writing and journalism, with a strong desire to develop skills in that area toward a possible career in communications, public relations, or related fields. Strong writing and editing skills. Comfort with interviewing members of the campus community. Strong research skills. Photography/video skills a plus but not required. Ability to work independently with a remote supervisor. Reliability. Discretion. Ability to honor and work with all identities and individuals, particularly those who are underrepresented in the country and/or at Lewis & Clark. REQUIRED FOR APPLICATION: Cover letter, resume, and TWO writing samples uploaded as additional documents. SCHEDULE: TBD -- Most likely 4-6 hours per week. RATE OF PAY: $16.80 per hour WORK STUDY REQUIREMENT: Federal or L&C Work Study Required.
