We are seeking a Publicity Assistant to support two senior members of the department, provide general administrative support, and assist with the creation of publicity campaigns for hardcover and trade paperback titles. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a wide variety of distinguished authors alongside a supportive team. The position of publicity assistant at Penguin Press is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities, which include but are not limited to mailings, media clippings, maintaining office supplies, attending in-person meetings, and escorting authors to events and media in New York City. We will consider candidates in the New York City metro area who can reliably be in the office 2-3 days each week.

The Role:
- Providing general administrative support, including processing book mailings, invoices, billings, and expense reports
- Researching and pitching a broad spectrum of media for authors and their books
- Coordinating travel and logistics for major author tours and creating detailed tour schedules for campaigns
- Drafting press materials, including press releases, pitch and galley letters, and quote sheets
- Liaising with organizations and bookstores to arrange author events
- Responding to calls and e-mails from media, authors, and booksellers
- Communicating internally between the Marketing, Editorial, and Production departments
- Maintaining media clips, press contacts, and detailed logs of publicity projects in an internal database system
- Accompanying authors at events and national media
Qualifications:
- Strong interest in literary fiction and serious nonfiction
- Desire to work in publicity and publishing
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and support two separate supervisors on their projects in a deadline-driven environment
- Excellent organizational skills and superb attention to detail
- Prompt follow-up skills
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Quick at picking up different computer systems and databases
The Penguin Random House national headquarters is located in New York City. The position is hybrid with an in-office requirement of 2-3 times a week with candidates based in the United States who can work primarily on Eastern Time.
The salary for this position is $55,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
