Job Title: Freelance Senior Python Developer (1-Year Contract)

Location: Belgium (Hybrid: 3 days on-site, 2 days remote)

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Freelance Python Developer to design, develop, and optimize scalable, efficient, and high-performance Python-based applications and systems. In this role, you will lead the development of backend services, APIs, automation scripts, and data processing pipelines, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust, maintainable software solutions.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Python and frameworks like Django, Flask, or FastAPI.
• Build and optimize RESTful APIs, GraphQL services, and microservices for seamless integration with frontend and third-party systems.
• Implement authentication, authorization, and security best practices (e.g., OAuth2, JWT, encryption, and role-based access control).
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability through efficient code, database design, and caching (Redis, Memcached).
• Collaborate with frontend developers, data engineers, and DevOps teams to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Lead the architecture and design of new features and systems, ensuring alignment with business and technical goals.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following best practices (PEP 8, SOLID principles).
• Implement automated testing (unit, integration, E2E) using frameworks like pytest or unittest, and set up CI/CD pipelines.
• Work with popular Python libraries for web development (Django REST Framework, FastAPI), data processing (Pandas, NumPy), async programming (asyncio, Celery), and cloud integration (Boto3, Azure SDK).
• Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance on complex challenges.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging Python libraries, tools, and industry trends to recommend innovative solutions.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Experience

• 5+ years of experience as a Python Developer, Backend Engineer, or similar role, with 3+ years in a senior or leadership capacity.
• Expertise in Python and its frameworks (Django, Flask, FastAPI, or similar).
• Strong background in RESTful APIs, GraphQL, and microservices architecture.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
• Proficiency in asynchronous programming (asyncio, Celery) and performance optimization.
• Hands-on experience with popular Python libraries for web development, data processing, testing, and cloud integration.
• Experience with DevOps practices (Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines) is a plus.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and serverless architectures is a strong plus.
• Experience with Agile/Scrum methodologies and project management tools (Jira, Trello).

Languages

• Fluent in English (required for collaboration).
• Fluent in French or Dutch (required for client/stakeholder communication).
