Senior Backend Python Developer with BESS / Renewable Energy experience is needed for an innovative Battery Energy Storage (BESS) company, developing technology that enables smarter, more flexible, and more efficient energy systems.

With the rapid growth of battery storage and the increasing demand for flexible energy assets, the focus of this role is on building the technology that enables BESS assets to operate efficiently and maximise their value across energy markets. Working within a cross-functional engineering team, you’ll develop scalable backend services supporting automated energy trading, high-frequency battery telemetry, real-time optimisation, and intelligent control and dispatch.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain cloud-native services using Python and modern backend technologies, working across APIs, microservices, event-driven architecture, high-volume data processing, and distributed systems. You’ll work closely with engineering, trading, and energy operations teams to develop systems that ingest and process real-time data from battery assets, support optimisation strategies, and enable reliable control of BESS sites.

The role will involve technologies such as Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, Kafka/Pulsar, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD, with a strong focus on scalability, reliability, performance, and observability. You’ll also contribute to technical direction, engineering best practices, and the development of robust systems that operate across a rapidly evolving energy market.

💰 Paying up to £700/day Outside IR35
