Purpose of the role:
FinteqHub is looking for a QA Tech Lead to shape how our engineering teams approach testing and to help them make good testing decisions on their own. You'll be based in the Payment Integrations team. There you'll drive the migration of our API tests from Java to Go and Gonkey, and from there you'll develop QA practice across all teams.
Our stack: Go, Kafka, PostgreSQL, Kubernetes. Tests are written in Go, Gonkey (YAML), TypeScript and Playwright, with reporting in ReportPortal and mobile testing on BrowserStack.
Key responsibilities:
Audit the legacy Java API test suite and decide what to keep, what to retire, and what should move to a lower test level.
Oversee the AI-assisted migration of tests to Go and Gonkey, and make sure no critical checks are lost.
Close coverage gaps in line with the test pyramid, starting with scenarios where money is at risk.
Help every team define and document its own test strategy and pyramid, and review them.
Advise team leads and automation engineers on testing decisions, with a clear view of the risk and cost of each option.
Own regression: plan the runs, distribute the checks and report status. Keep daily and nightly runs healthy: tackle flaky tests, and make sure every failure has an owner and a deadline.
Lead the investigation of cross-team defects: bring the right people together, find where the problem is and get it reproduced.
Set shared QA standards and tooling: ReportPortal, TMS, and formats for test cases and bug reports.
Bring AI into everyday testing: agents write tests, engineers review them.
Run a biweekly QA sync, mentor engineers, and help manual QAs move into automation.
Expand UI test automation as the next stage.
Required Experience:
Senior or Lead-level experience in test automation, with a strong focus on API testing.
You have built a test strategy and test pyramid from scratch, in more than one product.
A track record of changing testing practices across several teams.
Strong test design skills: you build coverage from requirements and specs, not just automate existing cases.
You see the system as a whole and understand the product, not just the framework.
You know where a unit test is enough and where e2e is needed.
Ability to align teams and drive decisions without formal authority.
Mentoring experience.
Experience writing tests in several languages and frameworks, and you pick up new tools quickly.
You read Java well enough to audit and migrate an existing test suite.
Solid understanding of REST/HTTP, JSON and API contract testing.
Hands-on experience with k8s, Docker, PostgreSQL and any message broker.
Experience with CI pipelines, investigating failures across services through logs, metrics and the DB, and stabilising flaky tests.
You use AI in your daily QA work: generating tests from specs, porting tests between languages, analysing failures, reviewing code.
You also know where AI gets things wrong.
At least Intermediate level of English.
Native-level Russian.
Nice to have:
Go (a strong plus).
Experience with TypeScript and Playwright.
Experience migrating a test suite from one stack to another.
Experience building AI-based tooling or agents for QA tasks.
Mobile testing experience, including BrowserStack.
Experience in fintech or payment systems (payment flows, callbacks, idempotency, reconciliation).
Experience with API testing tools.
