Overview: We are looking for an experienced QA/Test Engineer to support the modernization of the County. The project involves migrating legacy mainframe applications and batch processes to a modern .NET-based environment. The role requires hands-on experience with mainframe testing, batch job validation, CICS applications, database testing, file processing, defect analysis, and test automation using OpenText UFT One.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform functional and regression testing of legacy mainframe applications and corresponding migrated .NET applications.
• Validate CICS-based Property Tax applications and compare functionality and data between the legacy and new environments.
• Execute and validate mainframe batch jobs, including JCL-based processes, scheduled jobs, and migrated batch jobs in the new environment.
• Validate batch processing involving VSAM files, GDG datasets, sequential/flat files, FTP processes, report generation, email processes, database updates, sorting, and file conversions.
• Analyse batch job execution logs and identify failures related to file processing, database access, sorting, input/output datasets, and job dependencies.
• Perform backend data validation using DB2, SQL Server, IBM Data Studio, and SQL queries.
• Compare record counts, file contents, database results, and generated outputs between legacy and migrated environments.
• Perform testing and validation of CICS, COBOL-based legacy processes, JCL, DB2, VSAM, GDG, and batch applications.
• Develop and maintain automated test scripts using OpenText UFT One, including Terminal Emulator automation for mainframe applications.
• Support automation of CICS/mainframe test cases and maintain reusable automation components, object repositories, test data, and reporting.
• Create and execute detailed test cases based on existing legacy functionality and migration requirements.
• Identify, document, retest, and track defects using Azure DevOps.
• Provide detailed defect information including logs, screenshots, SQL results, expected versus actual behaviour, and supporting test evidence.
• Perform root-cause-level analysis to help distinguish application defects, data issues, environment issues, and migration/conversion issues.
• Coordinate testing activities with County teams, Avanade teams, and globally distributed development teams.
• Participate in test planning, execution, defect review, daily status discussions, and migration validation activities.

Required Skills:

• 8+ years of experience in Software Quality Assurance/Software Testing.
• Strong experience with manual and automated testing.
• Hands-on experience with OpenText UFT One/Micro Focus UFT.
• Experience testing mainframe applications using CICS/TN3270 Terminal Emulator.
• Knowledge of mainframe technologies including JCL, COBOL, DB2, VSAM, GDG, ISPF/TSO, and SDSF.
• Experience executing and validating mainframe and migrated batch jobs.
• Strong SQL skills for backend/database validation.
• Experience with DB2 and SQL Server.
• Experience validating flat files, fixed-length files, variable-length files, VSAM files, and other batch file formats.
• Experience with defect management and test execution using Azure DevOps.
• Experience testing legacy-to-modern application migration projects.
• Strong troubleshooting and defect-analysis skills.
• Strong documentation and communication skills.
• Experience working with government or public-sector clients is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with mainframe-to-.NET modernization or migration projects.
• Experience testing Property Tax, financial, banking, or other large-scale transaction-processing systems.
• Experience with DSeries or enterprise batch scheduling tools.
• Experience with Terminal Emulator automation using UFT One.
• Experience working with teams distributed across multiple countries and time zones.
