The partner organization's name will be disclosed during the interview process. This is not a direct LaunchCode employment opportunity.

Contract Details: This is an initial one-year contract opportunity. Strong performers may be encouraged to apply for full-time positions as they become available. If a full-time opportunity is not immediately available, there may be an opportunity to extend the contract while awaiting an opening.

Our partner is seeking a Retail Technology Quality Analyst who understands how retail systems support real business operations and is excited to apply that knowledge to AI-driven software testing. This role will primarily focus on testing point-of-sale (POS) systems, including established and newer retail POS platforms. Testing may also involve connected applications supporting inventory, merchandising, sales auditing, and retail analytics.
The focus is on business-journey testing rather than checking individual screens—ensuring that critical store selling, payment, returns, inventory, reconciliation, and operational handoffs work correctly across the broader retail technology ecosystem.

If you’re energized by retail operations, business-process testing, emerging technology, and AI, this is an opportunity to help shape the future of retail systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a primary tester for POS systems, validating store selling, payment, returns, exchanges, discounts, tax calculations, receipts, and end-of-day workflows.
  • Execute business-journey testing across connected retail applications, sales auditing, merchandising, retail analytics, and payment platforms, while keeping POS quality as the primary day-to-day responsibility.
  • Test retail operations workflows, including sales transactions, returns, exchanges, tender types, promotions, loyalty interactions, tax behavior, receipts, inventory updates, and downstream impacts across store, ERP, finance, fulfillment, and reporting processes.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineers, Product Owners, business stakeholders, and vendor partners to execute process-based testing across store operations, ERP, inventory, finance, fulfillment, and reporting platforms.
  • Use AI tools to accelerate test design, exploratory testing, defect analysis, documentation, and test reporting.
  • Learn and apply modern test automation tools and scripting languages to support test execution and reporting.
  • Configure and troubleshoot retail hardware setups, including POS terminals, scanners, printers, mobile devices, and payment systems.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to quality discussions within a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environment.
  • Act as a retail subject matter expert, bringing frontline and back-office retail operations insights into testing to ensure software meets the needs of store associates, retail operations teams, inventory and fulfillment teams, finance and reconciliation teams, and customers.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience working in a retail store environment, preferably in a role involving technology, operations, or omnichannel workflows
  • Familiarity with retail back-office processes such as inventory management, receiving, transfers, fulfillment, reconciliation, merchandising updates, reporting, or exception handling.
  • Ability to think like an end user, identify edge cases, document defects clearly, and communicate risks to technical and non-technical partners.
  • Technically curious and comfortable working with retail hardware, mobile devices, and connected peripherals.
  • Basic scripting experience, such as PowerShell, Python, or shell scripting; VBScript experience is a plus.
  • Interest in AI and emerging retail technologies, with a desire to learn and apply AI tools to testing and quality assurance.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, especially when working with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience using or testing POS, retail store operations, payment, inventory management, or ERP-connected systems is highly desirable.
  • Bonus: Exposure to robotic arm testing or automation hardware used in retail or logistics environments.
