Bookkeeper / Staff Accountant
QuickBooks Online | U.S. Clients | Remote - Colombia
Location: Colombia - 100% Remote
Type: Full-time, long-term independent contractor
Compensation: $1,600-$2,100 USD per month, depending on experience
Schedule: Monday-Friday with at least 4-5 hours of overlap with U.S. Pacific Time
About the Role
We're Basta & Company, a San Francisco-based CPA firm serving construction, real estate, and other small businesses across the U.S.
This is not a traditional bookkeeping role.
We use QuickBooks Online along with modern cloud and AI accounting tools, including Digits, Double, ChatGPT, and other software as our systems continue to evolve.
We're looking for someone with a solid accounting foundation who is also resourceful, curious, self-driven, and comfortable figuring things out.
A lot of our onboarding and training is self-directed through recorded videos, YouTube tutorials, written instructions, and online resources. You should be the type of person who can learn a new tool, research a solution, ask smart questions when needed, and keep moving without constant supervision.
Success in this role is driven as much by communication, initiative, problem-solving, and the ability to learn as it is by technical accounting skills.
What You'll Do
- Support bookkeeping and month-end close for U.S. clients
- Complete bank and credit card reconciliations
- Review transactions and maintain accurate books
- Assist with month-end adjustments and financial reporting
- Communicate directly with clients by email and video
- Learn and use new cloud accounting and AI tools
- Help improve internal processes and workflows
- Take ownership of assigned client work without needing constant supervision
What We're Looking For
- Accounting degree
- 3+ years of professional bookkeeping or accounting experience
- Strong conversational and written English
- Experience working with U.S. clients, U.S. companies, or a U.S. accounting firm
- Professional familiarity with QuickBooks Online
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Comfortable learning new software independently
- Familiarity with ChatGPT, Claude, or similar AI tools
- Resourceful and comfortable researching solutions when you don't know the answer
- Organized, dependable, and comfortable working independently in a small cloud-based team
Deep expertise in every software tool is not required. Your ability to learn, communicate, take initiative, and figure things out matters more.
