About us
Gilbert + Tobin is built on enduring values of excellence, trust, respect, integrity and good corporate citizenship. We are a leading firm with over 500 lawyers, trusted by our clients to navigate today’s increasingly complex world.
We are purpose-built for our clients’ most complex work - across transactions, disputes and regulation. Our partners are leaders in their fields, delivering the highest quality of legal advice and providing an exceptional edge for our clients. They also provide our lawyers the opportunity to work with and learn from them. We are innovators in the use of technology, redefining value and service in the legal industry.
Our open, merit-based culture attracts and inspires the best legal talent. Founded in 1988, G+T’s journey has been one of relentless ambition and rapid progress, achieving extraordinary success in just over three decades.
We remain as determined as ever to be the best it’s possible to be.
The role
Our Real Assets team supports investors in Australian real estate and infrastructure, specialising in real asset transactions and asset management. The team integrates M&A, direct asset, banking and finance, development, planning and environment, and regulatory clearance expertise within a single, focused group.
You will work within the Real Assets practice group to lead the development and delivery of knowledge systems, thought leadership and market-leading innovation initiatives for the group. You will also work collaboratively within the broader Knowledge + Practice Innovation (KPI) team to improve knowledge sharing and increase efficiency, effectiveness and innovation across G+T.
We will consider candidates seeking a part-time working arrangement, offering the opportunity to balance personal and professional commitments while contributing to high-impact, meaningful work.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- championing the KPI strategy and supporting the delivery of KPI initiatives across the Real Assets group and the broader firm;
- effectively communicating with and managing key stakeholders, including the Director of Knowledge Systems and the Real Assets Partners;
- enabling the effective flow of legal information within the Real Assets group and between practice groups and, where appropriate, between the firm and external audiences, including clients;
- contributing to the development and delivery of thought leadership for the Real Assets group, including market insights, client-facing content and commentary on legal and industry developments;
- drafting and collating written content for the group, including precedents, Knowledge and Learning guides and other materials required;
- coordinating with others, such as lawyers and paralegals, to prepare appropriate content for the practice group, including supervising paralegals who draft regular current awareness updates for the Real Assets group and the Environment and Planning team;
- working closely with the Transformation Lawyers to create and test workflows and other AI initiatives that improve efficiency in the Real Assets group;
- curating and maintaining practice group content within the firm’s knowledge systems, ensuring it is appropriately structured and kept up to date;
- acting as a trusted resource for lawyers in the group, responding to complex legal and practical questions and providing guidance on matters as required;
- developing and implementing a training strategy for the Real Assets group, including induction for new starters, foundational training for junior lawyers and an ongoing specialist training program for the group;
- participating in and leading innovation and process improvement projects, including Real Assets specific and firm-wide initiatives.
About you
To be successful in this position, you will have the following:
- at least 5 years’ post-admission transactional experience;
- transactional experience across real assets, spanning real estate, infrastructure and related asset management work, with relevant experience using PEXA;
- specialist legal knowledge relevant to real asset transactions and asset management;
- advanced legal and general research and analytical skills;
- excellent writing and drafting skills;
- demonstrated ability to quickly comprehend new legal concepts and information and communicate them clearly and coherently to the group;
- strong organisational skills, with the ability to categorise, structure and label information for online delivery;
- capacity to use and improve knowledge systems, workflows and AI-enabled tools;
- excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to express complex ideas clearly; and
- strong interpersonal skills with the ability and willingness to influence and collaborate actively across teams.
