Keoghs LLP is one of the UK's leading insurance law firms and is seeking a talented Insurance Lawyer to join its Property Risks & Coverage team in Birmingham.

You will manage a caseload of household and commercial property recovery claims on behalf of leading insurer clients, covering a range of perils, including fire, flood and product liability. Claim values typically exceed £10,000, and we are particularly interested in candidates with experience handling claims valued between £10,000 and £100,000. Experience of handling claims exceeding £100,000 would be advantageous.

This is a technically demanding role with regular client interaction. You will provide practical, high-quality legal advice, manage your own caseload, and build strong relationships with clients.

The team works closely with insurer clients, delivering training seminars and workshops on key legal developments. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to client development initiatives and assist with the preparation and delivery of technical training sessions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a varied caseload of recovery claims from initial instruction through to resolution
  • Assess funding, recovery prospects and overall case strategy at the outset of claims
  • Investigate liability and causation issues, obtaining and analysing key evidence
  • Liaise with third parties, experts and counsel to build and progress claims effectively
  • Prepare high-quality legal documentation, including pre-action correspondence and court pleadings
  • Represent clients at hearings, conferences, mediations and trials as required
  • Drive settlement negotiations and maximise recovery outcomes for insurer clients
  • Build strong relationships with insurers and other stakeholders, delivering an excellent client experience
  • Conduct legal research and provide clear, pragmatic advice on complex issues
  • Ensure all matters are handled in accordance with SRA Standards and Regulations

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Qualified solicitor or equivalent with relevant technical capability
  • 0-3 years claimant or defendant property litigation experience
  • Experience of running a case load
  • A working knowledge and understanding of household and commercial recoveries
Required Soft Skills:
  • An ability to prioritise workload
  • Ability to pay attention to detail
  • Ability to work with case management systems
  • The personal skills to deal with such work as major and expensive litigation involving liaison with senior claims handler

Working Hours
35 hours per week, Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm with 1 unpaid hour for lunch.
