The Regional Director of Operations will have a visible presence at several practice locations and will focus on establishing professional relationships with the entire hospitalist team, hospital and system C-suite executives, case management, nursing, medical staff office, as well as community providers and specialty physicians. The Regional Director of Operations manages a team of direct reports that support day to day operations of successful Hospitalist practice within an assigned region.  This role will report up to Chief Operations Officer with accountability to the Regional Chief Medical Officer.  This role works in a heavily matrixed team, having a Divisional Chief Medical Officer as a dyad partner, as well as working very closely with a Director, Clinical Performance. Location & Travel: This is a remote position requiring frequent travel throughout the region. To support travel requirements, candidates must reside in one of the following states: CA, WA, OR, NV, AZ, ID, WY, MO, IA, or MS. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Initiating and leading content discussions and preparations for Joint Operations Committee, Quarterly Performance Reviews, and other hospital partner interactions. Reviewing content for final sign-off of all client-facing templates (scorecards, dashboards, action plans) developed Proactively utilizing Sound and industry knowledge to lead discussions with hospital partners regarding short term and long-term strategic objectives, effectively communicating where Sound can provide a solution. Build strong relationships with the C-Suite at each hospital partner in assigned region, reporting on and checking in on performance on monthly basis Meeting regularly with each Medical Director and PMT member to review site performance and identify opportunities and barriers Final oversight for day-to-day practice operations including matters related to payroll, credentialing, human resources, recruiting, etc. with assistance of direct reports and shared service departments Actively participating in Monthly Operating Reviews, proactively reviewing practice financial statements for accuracy and trends to explain financial performance. Identifying and understanding the impact of variances and enact plans to address negative variances. Developing and managing annual budgets with responsibility for P&L performance for programs in assigned region Appropriately gathering and processing of monthly patient level data files, troubleshooting as necessary Working in the pursuit of new business in the region. Coordinating individual efforts for new business with Business Development, COO, and RCMO (s) Completing due diligence and practice design for new hospital practices within region. Creating or reviewing proposals for new business and expansion of current business, including financial proformas. Understanding the financial and operational impacts of program changes as well as pricing, including supporting or leading contract negotiations and new site implementations in conjunction with main office departments and COO Leading new practice implementations in conjunction with main office departments Hiring, training and developing a practice management team (PMT) for assigned region Managing and tracking reconciliation dates, PQI submission dates, contract renewal timelines, and annual escalator anniversary dates in a timely manner Appropriate escalation of issue/concerns to COO Supporting the Regional Manager, Clinical Performance and Clinical Performance Nurse(s) in their development and execution of clinical processes What we are looking for: A successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of a combination of these values, knowledge, and experience: Values Communication: The ability to speak, write, and listen clearly and consistently Change Capable: The ability to inspire others to navigate and progress through change by providing vision, the why, and feedback mechanisms Critical Thinking : The ability to be proactive; anticipate needs; ability to make good decisions with incomplete, ambiguous information Executive Presence: The ability to inspire confidence in others to be a leader they want to follow; inspiring confidence in others.  Set a personal example of optimism, poise, and professionalism Negotiating: Reach consensus while maintaining positive, sustainable relationships Relationship Building and Maintenance: The ability to create and nourish healthy, strong relationships among hospital partners, dyad/triad partners, and Sound team members at all levels (C-Suite, Sound, and Team) Strategic Thinking: The ability to develop, execute, and rally your team around data-driven long-range plans Teamwork: The ability to pull people together into highly effective teams Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint); knowledge of MS Project Knowledge of Process Improvement methodology; LEAN-Six Sigma for healthcare training is desirable Knowledge of relevant state and federal healthcare regulations Working knowledge of healthcare payment models, physician practice management, revenue cycle, payer contracting, managed care models, and Accountable Care Organization structure Knowledge of Hospital Medicine landscape and market forces driving the hospitalist model of care Understanding of hospitalist physician recruiting, marketing and compensation issues Education and Experience Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in business administration, healthcare administration or similar field Minimum: 6-8 years' experience working with healthcare operational management, including financial statements and working knowledge of hospital and healthcare informatics (ex: quality measures) Preferred: 3-4 years' experience managing a multi-site physician group practice Experience working in a matrixed environment Salary Range $125,000-$155,000 annually. In addition, Regional Directors are eligible for a bonus opportunity.  Exact pay will be determined based on candidate experience, geographical location, and size/complexity of the program(s) being supported.
