This goal extends to how we hire and onboard our most valuable assets – our employees.

Why This Role Matters:

RVI Group is a Stamford, Connecticut based financial services company focused on a broad portfolio of specialty insurance products, reinsurance, financial solutions, and analytical services. We have pioneered residual value insurance and have operated for more than 30 years.

We are seeking a Reinsurance Underwriting Director who plays a crucial role in growing the reinsurance segment, supporting the evaluation and management of reinsurance transactions. This is a fast-paced and challenging position involving the screening and vetting of the transaction pipeline, assessing risk and reward balances, and assisting in the underwriting of both renewal and new transactions. This is a highly collaborative role working with various teams to conduct in-depth analysis, setting up transaction models, review contracts, and assist in drafting transaction memos.

Why This Role is Unique:

  • Reinsurance Transaction Review. You'll learn deal structuring, trust agreements and contract terms alongside experienced leaders.
  • Direct access to leadership. Collaborate with senior leaders on reviews and approvals.
  • Building new business. You'll help launch and improve new specialty insurance programs and research new lines.

How You'll Contribute:

  • Build and validate models that measure the risk and expected return of each transaction.
  • Peer review actuarial models for quality and accuracy.
  • Draft clear transaction memos that summarize key terms, risks and recommendations.
  • Work with the team to screen and assess incoming reinsurance opportunities, balancing risk and reward.
  • Review reinsurance contracts and trust agreements
  • Review reserving assumptions for selected transactions.
  • Support development and run new specialty insurance programs.
  • Team up with Risk Management to strengthen reserving and enterprise risk management (ERM) processes.
  • Research new lines of business and share insights on industry trends.

What We're Looking for:

  • A curious and highly analytical mindset to effectively support risk assessment and risk underwriting.
  • A working knowledge of risk assessment, actuarial principles, pricing and reserving methods
  • 7+ years of experience in property & casualty insurance in actuarial, pricing, reserving or underwriting analytics or a closely related role.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate complex data and make informed decisions.
  • Ideally exposure to reinsurance, treaty, or facultative work or structured transactions is preferred.
  • Prior experience at a carrier, reinsurer, MGA, broker or actuarial firm or commerical auto experience is prefered.
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Science or Risk Management.

Location & Work Arrangement:

  • A hybrid schedule is preferred for candidates in Stamford, Connecticut.
  • Will consider highly qualified candidates for a remote schedule with the expectation to be in the Stamford office approximately 2-3 days a month
  • Some travel may be expected for industry conferences and other business needs.

Compensation:

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several U.S. geographic markets. The total compensation for this position ranges from $190,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $220,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
