Remote | Excel Expert — General — $70–$100/hour

We are sharing an opportunity for advanced Excel professionals with broad, cross-industry experience in spreadsheet modelling, data analysis, dashboards, automation, and business problem-solving to contribute to an advanced AI training and model-evaluation initiative.

Selected professionals will design realistic Excel tasks, develop accurate reference solutions, evaluate spreadsheet-based outputs, and help research teams improve how advanced AI systems perform professional work in Excel. This role is particularly suited to versatile Excel experts who have applied sophisticated spreadsheet techniques across multiple industries and business functions rather than within a single narrow specialisation.

Key Responsibilities

Advanced Excel Modelling & Analysis

• Build realistic spreadsheet models for varied professional scenarios
• Apply advanced formulas across structured analytical workflows
• Use XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, dynamic arrays, and related functions
• Develop robust data models for business and operational analysis
• Review spreadsheet calculations for accuracy, structure, and usability

Dashboards & Data Transformation

• Build and evaluate PivotTables and interactive spreadsheet dashboards
• Apply Power Query for data cleaning, transformation, and integration
• Use Power Pivot for structured modelling and analytical workflows
• Organise complex datasets into clear and decision-useful outputs
• Assess spreadsheet design for efficiency and maintainability

Automation & Excel Task Development

• Develop realistic Excel tasks drawn from professional experience
• Apply macros and VBA where appropriate to automate workflows
• Create assignments spanning multiple industries and business functions
• Write accurate, well-structured reference solutions
• Define clear assumptions, expected outputs, and completion criteria

AI Output Evaluation & Quality Review

• Evaluate Excel tasks and AI-generated spreadsheet solutions
• Identify formula errors, modelling weaknesses, and incorrect assumptions
• Assess whether outputs satisfy professional spreadsheet standards
• Provide precise written feedback explaining required corrections
• Distinguish plausible-looking solutions from technically correct work

Research Collaboration & Training Data Quality

• Guide research teams on advanced Excel concepts and workflows
• Help close knowledge gaps affecting model performance
• Collaborate with other subject-matter experts on evaluation consistency
• Support development of high-quality spreadsheet training data
• Communicate complex Excel decisions clearly to technical and research teams

Ideal Profile

• Advanced professional-level Excel expertise
• Strong command of XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, dynamic arrays, and other advanced formulas
• Hands-on experience with PivotTables, data modelling, and dashboard development
• Strong working knowledge of Power Query and Power Pivot
• Experience using macros and VBA in professional spreadsheet workflows
• Broad application of Excel across multiple industries or business functions
• Experience should extend beyond a single specialised use case
• Strong analytical and business problem-solving skills
• Demonstrable professional progression
• Ability to design realistic spreadsheet tasks from practical experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Teaching or professional training experience is advantageous
• PhD-level academic experience is also considered a strong plus
• Previous AI training, human-data annotation, or model-evaluation experience is advantageous but not required

Engagement Details

• Remote — United States only
• Compensation: $70–$100/hour
• Availability requirement: 40 hours per week during weekdays through the end of September, then 20 hours per week thereafter
• Work will involve Excel task development, reference-solution creation, spreadsheet evaluation, and research collaboration
• Assignments may include advanced formulas, PivotTables, data modelling, dashboards, Power Query, Power Pivot, macros, and VBA
• Broad cross-industry and cross-functional Excel expertise is particularly valuable for this engagement
• Projects may be extended, shortened, or concluded depending on project needs and performance
• H1-B and STEM OPT candidates cannot currently be supported
• Employment classification should be confirmed during onboarding because the source materials contain conflicting W-2 and independent-contractor language
