We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced graphic and visual designers with strong expertise in typography, editorial and marketing layout, grid systems, brand and template systems, and professional Adobe or Figma production workflows to contribute to an advanced AI training and design evaluation project.

Selected professionals will analyse, annotate, and deconstruct visual design assets across print, digital, and motion formats, translating professional design judgement into structured metadata and precise written descriptions. The work requires strong visual literacy, advanced composition knowledge, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to communicate design decisions using established industry terminology. No prior experience in AI is required.

Key Responsibilities

Design Analysis & Annotation

  • Annotate editorial, poster, and marketing design assets using defined project schemas
  • Review short video clips and document relevant visual and compositional characteristics
  • Apply precise design terminology when describing visual elements and relationships
  • Identify hierarchy, balance, emphasis, rhythm, proportion, and other compositional principles
  • Maintain consistent annotation quality across diverse design formats and styles

Typography, Layout & Visual Hierarchy

  • Analyse typography, layout systems, grids, spacing, colour, and visual hierarchy
  • Deconstruct completed designs into their underlying compositional structures
  • Identify relationships between text, imagery, graphic elements, and negative space
  • Assess whether design decisions support clarity, communication, and intended visual impact
  • Apply professional editorial and marketing design standards when evaluating assets

Structured Metadata & Design Systems

  • Populate structured metadata describing geometry, hierarchy, style, and typographic systems
  • Evaluate brand systems, templates, and recurring visual patterns
  • Identify consistent and inconsistent applications of design-system principles
  • Document compositional relationships in a structured and repeatable format
  • Help ensure annotations are suitable for large-scale design datasets

Motion, Framing & Visual Flow

  • Apply composition and cinematography terminology when evaluating short video content
  • Describe framing, movement, visual flow, and spatial relationships accurately
  • Identify changes in composition or hierarchy across motion sequences
  • Evaluate how visual elements guide viewer attention over time
  • Translate motion and composition observations into clear structured annotations

Quality Standards & Annotation Frameworks

  • Create exemplar annotations that establish quality benchmarks for project datasets
  • Identify ambiguous cases, missing categories, and annotation-schema edge cases
  • Document gaps or inconsistencies that may require guideline refinement
  • Collaborate with project leads and quality reviewers as annotation standards evolve
  • Maintain strong consistency and attention to detail across framework updates

Ideal Profile

  • 3–5+ years of professional experience as a graphic designer, visual designer, brand designer, editorial designer, layout or print specialist, art director, or in a closely related discipline
  • Professionals with 7+ years of experience or substantial art-direction expertise may be well suited to quality-leadership responsibilities
  • Portfolio demonstrating advanced typography, colour, layout, grid systems, and visual hierarchy
  • Strong background in editorial, poster, marketing, or comparable communication design
  • Expert-level proficiency with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, or comparable professional design tools
  • Relevant Adobe experience may include Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and After Effects
  • Familiarity with Canva or other production platforms is also valuable
  • Ability to articulate design concepts precisely using established design and composition terminology
  • Strong written English for detailed annotation and structured documentation
  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Fine Arts, or a related field is advantageous; equivalent professional portfolio and experience are also relevant
  • Motion design, video editing, or cinematography experience is beneficial
  • No prior experience in AI training or model evaluation is required

Engagement Details

  • Independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Compensation: $20–$50/hour
  • Work will involve visual design annotation, typography and layout analysis, structured metadata creation, design evaluation, and quality-framework development
  • Strong editorial, poster, marketing, or brand-design expertise is central to this engagement
  • Professional familiarity with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and layered design-production workflows is highly relevant
  • Project scope, workload, annotation schemas, and evaluation standards may evolve depending on project requirements
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, agency, institution, or other third party
