We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Medical Coders with strong expertise in ICD-10, CPT, Evaluation & Management coding, clinical documentation review, and coding quality assurance to contribute to an advanced AI training and medical-data evaluation project.

Selected professionals will review and annotate medical records, assign and validate ICD-10 and CPT codes, apply E&M leveling guidelines, and provide structured feedback on coding edge cases and documentation quality. The work requires strong coding judgement, current reference materials, and consistent attention to accuracy and compliance. No prior experience in AI is required.

Key Responsibilities

Medical Record Coding & Annotation

  • Review clinical documentation and assign appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes
  • Annotate medical records accurately based on documented diagnoses and services
  • Validate coding decisions against supporting documentation
  • Identify incomplete, ambiguous, or inconsistent clinical information
  • Maintain high standards of coding accuracy across repeated assignments

ICD-10 & CPT Application

  • Apply current ICD-10 coding guidance
  • Assign CPT codes based on documented procedures and services
  • Use official coding references to support coding decisions
  • Identify discrepancies between documentation and proposed codes
  • Maintain compliance with applicable coding standards and conventions

Evaluation & Management Coding

  • Apply official E&M leveling guidelines
  • Evaluate documentation against relevant E&M requirements
  • Assess coding accuracy across varied clinical scenarios
  • Identify undercoding, overcoding, or unsupported level selection
  • Document coding rationale clearly when clarification is needed

Clinical Documentation Review

  • Review diverse forms of clinical documentation
  • Identify documentation gaps affecting code assignment
  • Flag ambiguous or unsupported coding scenarios
  • Apply professional judgement to challenging coding cases
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to resolve interpretation issues

Coding Quality & Feedback

  • Provide structured feedback on coding guidelines and edge cases
  • Identify recurring coding errors or areas requiring clarification
  • Contribute recommendations that improve dataset consistency
  • Support quality-control processes across medical coding tasks
  • Help refine workflows and standards for coding evaluation

AI Training & Dataset Validation

  • Contribute domain expertise to medical-code datasets used for AI training
  • Review coded examples for accuracy and internal consistency
  • Evaluate AI-generated or model-assisted coding outputs where required
  • Provide expert feedback to improve model understanding of coding rules
  • Support validation of clinically grounded coding datasets

Ideal Profile

  • Active AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification is required
  • Strong working knowledge of ICD-10 coding
  • Strong working knowledge of CPT coding
  • Solid understanding of Evaluation & Management leveling guidelines
  • Experience coding across diverse clinical documentation types
  • Strong attention to detail and coding accuracy
  • Ability to explain coding decisions clearly in written and verbal formats
  • Access to current official ICD-10 and CPT coding references
  • Access to current E&M guidelines
  • Familiarity with digital annotation tools is advantageous
  • Experience contributing to data-driven or quality-review projects is beneficial
  • Strong commitment to coding compliance and continuous professional learning
  • No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required

Engagement Details

  • Independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Compensation: $25–$40/hour
  • Work will involve medical-record annotation, ICD-10 coding, CPT coding, E&M leveling, dataset validation, and coding-quality review
  • Active CPC certification is required
  • Strong coding accuracy and documentation-review skills are central to this engagement
  • Assignments may involve a range of clinical specialties, documentation types, and coding scenarios
  • Project scope, workload, coding guidelines, and evaluation standards may evolve depending on project requirements
  • Work must be completed without using confidential, proprietary, or personally identifiable patient information belonging to any employer, client, healthcare organisation, institution, or other third party
