Remote | Microbiologist — $70–$90/hour

We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced Microbiologists with strong expertise in microbiology, bacterial and fungal systems, microbial physiology, medical microbiology, scientific documentation, and data-quality evaluation to contribute to an advanced AI training and biological-science evaluation project.

Selected professionals will analyse microbial systems, review microbiology-related scientific content, assess relationships between microorganisms and disease, evaluate antimicrobial effects, and provide structured scientific input supporting next-generation AI systems. The work requires strong subject-matter knowledge, careful scientific reasoning, and clear written and verbal communication. No prior experience in AI is required.

Key Responsibilities

Microbial Biology & Physiology

• Analyse the development, morphology, and behaviour of microscopic organisms
• Evaluate bacterial, fungal, and algal systems
• Interpret microbial structure and physiological processes
• Identify scientifically inaccurate or incomplete explanations
• Apply sound biological reasoning across microbiology-related scenarios

Bacterial & Fungal Systems

• Review scientific content involving bacterial and fungal organisms
• Analyse differences in structure, function, and behaviour across microbial groups
• Evaluate microbial growth, adaptation, and environmental interactions
• Assess the plausibility of described microbial responses
• Provide technically grounded feedback on microbial processes

Medical Microbiology

• Analyse relationships between microorganisms and disease
• Evaluate microbiological concepts relevant to human health
• Review pathogen-related scenarios for scientific accuracy
• Distinguish appropriate biological interpretations from unsupported conclusions
• Contribute domain expertise to medically relevant microbiology tasks

Antimicrobial Effects

• Assess the impact of antibiotics and other agents on microbial populations
• Evaluate microbial response and susceptibility concepts
• Review explanations involving antimicrobial mechanisms
• Identify oversimplified or inaccurate conclusions
• Support scientifically robust interpretation of microbiological effects

Scientific Data & Quality Evaluation

• Review microbiology-related data and scientific content
• Apply rubrics and defined evaluation criteria consistently
• Identify factual, logical, or interpretive issues
• Support quality assurance across training datasets
• Provide structured feedback to improve scientific accuracy

AI Training & Annotation Support

• Evaluate AI-generated microbiology content
• Identify scientific errors, unsupported claims, or missing context
• Annotate biological data according to project requirements
• Contribute expert knowledge to AI-training workflows
• Support development of reliable microbiology evaluation materials

Scientific Documentation

• Document findings and scientific reasoning clearly
• Prepare concise written explanations of microbiological concepts
• Maintain strong standards of technical accuracy
• Translate complex information for interdisciplinary audiences
• Support reproducibility and knowledge transfer through clear documentation

Remote Collaboration

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary project teams
• Communicate scientific findings in written and verbal formats
• Contribute feedback to evolving project workflows
• Work independently in a remote, digital-first environment
• Maintain reliable communication and attention to project requirements

Ideal Profile

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related discipline
• Strong knowledge of microbiology
• Extensive understanding of bacterial systems
• Strong familiarity with fungal biology
• Knowledge of algal systems is valuable
• Demonstrated understanding of microbial structure and physiology
• Familiarity with medical microbiology and microorganism–disease relationships
• Ability to evaluate antimicrobial effects and related scientific concepts
• Strong attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to document scientific processes and findings clearly
• Comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment
• Strong commitment to scientific accuracy and data quality
• Prior experience developing or applying scientific or educational rubrics is advantageous
• Experience with biological annotation, AI, or machine-learning projects is beneficial but not required
• Master's or PhD in a relevant field is advantageous
• No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required

• Compensation: $70–$90/hour

• Strong microbiology expertise and scientific judgement are central to this engagement

• Project scope, workload, microbiology topics, and evaluation standards may evolve depending on project requirements
• Work must be completed without using confidential, proprietary, or identifiable information belonging to any employer, client, laboratory, healthcare organisation, research institution, collaborator, or other third party
