We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for Physical Sciences Research Assistants with strong expertise in methodological rigor, experimental reasoning, quantitative analysis, protocol fidelity, technical documentation, and scientific evaluation to contribute to an advanced AI training and research-assessment project.

Selected professionals will design sophisticated evaluation tasks in the physical sciences, work with authentic scientific datasets and research materials, develop rigorous methodological solutions, and author detailed grading rubrics that assess numerical accuracy, technical reasoning, scientific interpretation, and adherence to research protocols. No prior experience in AI is required.

Key Responsibilities

Scientific Task Design

  • Design advanced evaluation tasks across physics, chemistry, materials science, and related physical-science domains
  • Create scenarios involving experimental analysis, computational modelling, and technical reasoning
  • Develop problems that reflect authentic research and applied scientific complexity
  • Avoid oversimplified or purely textbook-style examples
  • Ensure tasks are suitable for rigorous expert-level evaluation

Research Artifact & Data Curation

  • Source and synthesise authentic scientific materials
  • Work with datasets, spreadsheets, computational outputs, and technical references
  • Curate supporting evidence relevant to scientific tasks
  • Integrate multiple sources of technical information into coherent evaluation scenarios
  • Maintain accuracy and traceability across research inputs

Experimental & Quantitative Reasoning

  • Define rigorous methodological approaches for scientific problems
  • Develop quantitative solutions with clear assumptions and calculations
  • Evaluate experimental design and interpretation
  • Apply appropriate scientific reasoning to uncertainty, measurement, and data quality
  • Ensure numerical conclusions are technically defensible

Rubric Development & Evaluation Standards

  • Develop detailed grading rubrics containing 35+ evaluation criteria where required
  • Assess technical rigor, numerical accuracy, scientific interpretation, and protocol adherence
  • Define concrete standards for high-quality scientific reasoning
  • Ensure rubric criteria are clear, objective, and reproducible
  • Maintain strong alignment between task requirements, solutions, and evaluation criteria

Protocol Fidelity & Technical Documentation

  • Document scientific protocols and methodological reasoning clearly
  • Ensure procedures can be understood and reproduced by other reviewers
  • Record assumptions, calculations, and evaluation logic precisely
  • Maintain consistency between source material and final task design
  • Support reliable assessment through high-quality technical documentation

Research Quality & Collaboration

  • Collaborate with project leads to refine scientific tasks and evaluation standards
  • Review tasks for methodological integrity and benchmark relevance
  • Identify weaknesses in experimental reasoning or quantitative assumptions
  • Incorporate feedback into evolving project requirements
  • Maintain high standards of scientific rigor across repeated assignments

Ideal Profile

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in physics, chemistry, materials science, or a closely related discipline
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on research experience or applied technical project work in the physical sciences
  • Strong quantitative-analysis skills
  • Demonstrated methodological rigor in scientific environments
  • Experience interpreting experimental or computational results
  • Strong ability to document complex technical procedures clearly
  • Excellent professional written English
  • Experience authoring scientific assessments or evaluation rubrics is advantageous
  • Comfortable working with datasets, spreadsheets, PDFs, and varied technical-document formats
  • Strong attention to protocol fidelity and reproducibility
  • Ability to assess scientific work against detailed evaluation criteria
  • No prior AI-training or model-evaluation experience is required

Engagement Details

  • Independent contractor engagement
  • Fully remote
  • Displayed compensation range: $30–$50/hour
  • Actual compensation structure is output-based, with payment made per task that meets project specifications
  • Task completion time may vary depending on individual experience and workflow
  • Minimum weekly submission requirements apply; the source does not specify the exact number of required tasks
  • Work will involve scientific task design, experimental reasoning, quantitative analysis, research-artifact curation, technical documentation, and rubric development
  • Strong methodological rigor and scientific judgement are central to this engagement
  • Roles are typically filled within approximately 48 hours
  • Selected experts are expected to begin initial tasks within approximately 24–48 hours after onboarding
  • Project scope, workload, research domains, and evaluation standards may evolve depending on project requirements
  • Work must be completed without using confidential or proprietary information belonging to any employer, client, institution, or other third party
