Remote | Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Node.js, TypeScript, Rust) — $50–$80/hour

We are sharing a full-time opportunity for experienced Senior Backend Engineers with strong production expertise in Node.js, TypeScript, Rust, APIs, distributed web systems, and high-traffic consumer platforms to contribute to large-scale customer-facing digital services.

Selected professionals will design, build, test, and maintain backend services supporting web and mobile experiences used at significant scale. The role combines hands-on production engineering with technical ownership, API and integration design, performance optimisation, code review, mentoring, and collaboration across engineering, product, UX, business, and analytics teams.

Key Responsibilities

Backend Service Development

• Design, develop, test, and maintain production backend services
• Build high-quality services using Node.js, TypeScript, and Rust
• Own features across the full software-development lifecycle
• Apply scalable, secure, and maintainable engineering practices
• Deliver reliable functionality aligned with broader platform objectives

API & Systems Integration

• Build server-to-server integrations for high-traffic applications
• Develop and maintain REST and GraphQL API layers
• Apply strong understanding of authentication between services
• Design resilient communication patterns around timeouts and retries
• Ensure integrations remain performant and reliable under production workloads

Web Platform & Performance Engineering

• Apply deep knowledge of HTTP semantics, headers, cookies, caching, and sessions
• Monitor backend application and service performance
• Diagnose defects, bottlenecks, and production reliability issues
• Optimise services supporting large-scale consumer-facing experiences
• Drive continuous improvements in performance and operational quality

Architecture, AI Integration & Code Quality

• Contribute to solution design and backend architecture decisions
• Conduct code reviews and uphold engineering-quality standards
• Integrate AI and ML capabilities into production services where appropriate
• Use generative AI tools to improve engineering productivity
• Support CI/CD practices across development, testing, and deployment workflows

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

• Lead delivery of scoped features through collaborative engineering teams
• Work across Engineering, UX, Product, Business, and Analytics functions
• Mentor peers and contribute to technical knowledge sharing
• Explain complex technical decisions clearly to broad audiences
• Support engineering excellence through ownership, feedback, and continuous improvement

Ideal Profile

• 4+ years of professional software-engineering experience building production systems, or a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience
• Experience working within recognised, high-scale technology or consumer-platform environments
• Strong hands-on production coding experience with Node.js
• Strong production experience with TypeScript on backend systems
• Hands-on Rust experience in production services, performance-critical modules, or substantial systems work
• Strong understanding of HTTP semantics and modern web infrastructure
• Experience with cookies, headers, caching, sessions, and server-to-server communication
• Experience designing authentication, timeout, and retry behaviour between services
• Strong background building or operating high-traffic consumer-facing web platforms
• Experience with GraphQL on Node.js, including schemas, resolvers, or federation, is advantageous
• Familiarity with web-accessibility standards is beneficial
• Strong understanding of scalable, secure, and maintainable backend architecture
• Demonstrable progression to senior-level engineering ownership
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly across technical and non-technical audiences

Engagement Details

• Full-time engagement
• Remote — United States only
• Compensation: $50–$80/hour
• Expected commitment is 40 hours per week during weekdays
• Work will involve production backend development, API design, systems integration, performance engineering, AI/ML integration, and technical leadership
• Core technologies include Node.js, TypeScript, and Rust
• Assignments may involve REST, GraphQL, CI/CD, distributed-service communication, caching, sessions, and high-traffic web infrastructure
• Strong hands-on production coding and senior-level ownership are central to this role
• Collaboration will span engineering, UX, product, business, and analytics teams
