Is this job info correct?

We are sharing a specialised consulting opportunity for experienced adolescent addiction and substance-use professionals with advanced expertise in clinical risk assessment, severity staging, intervention judgement, withdrawal and overdose risk, and child and adolescent clinical safety to contribute to an advanced AI training and clinical evaluation project.

Selected professionals will review adolescent substance-use cases, assess severity and intervention urgency, distinguish experimentation from clinically significant patterns, and provide structured guidance grounded in recognised diagnostic and treatment frameworks. The work requires substantial direct clinical experience with adolescents, strong judgement around escalation and level of care, and the ability to communicate complex clinical reasoning clearly to non-specialist audiences. No prior experience in AI is required.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Risk Assessment & Severity Staging

  • Review adolescent substance-use cases and produce detailed written assessments of risk, severity, and intervention urgency
  • Apply established frameworks such as DSM-5 substance-use disorder criteria and ASAM guidance
  • Characterise severity and determine appropriate levels of care
  • Identify patterns suggesting escalating clinical risk or treatment complexity
  • Document assessment reasoning clearly and consistently

Substance Use & Developmental Evaluation

  • Distinguish developmentally typical experimentation from clinically significant substance-use patterns
  • Assess frequency, intensity, consequences, functional impairment, and contextual risk
  • Consider developmental stage, family environment, peer influences, and other relevant factors
  • Identify ambiguity or missing information that materially affects clinical interpretation
  • Apply youth-specific judgement rather than relying solely on adult substance-use frameworks

Withdrawal, Overdose & Safeguarding Risk

  • Identify signs of withdrawal, overdose risk, or other acute safety concerns
  • Recognise safeguarding issues that may require escalation or immediate intervention
  • Evaluate whether a presentation can be managed routinely or requires urgent specialist support
  • Consider risks associated with polysubstance use and high-risk patterns where relevant
  • Recommend proportionate escalation pathways based on clinical severity

Intervention & Level-of-Care Judgement

  • Evaluate the safety and clinical appropriateness of proposed interventions
  • Recommend alternative approaches where proposed responses are insufficient or unsuitable
  • Apply ASAM and related frameworks when assessing level-of-care needs
  • Consider pharmacological interventions, including medication for opioid use disorder, when clinically relevant
  • Assess withdrawal-management strategies and treatment options for under-18s where appropriate

Clinical Guidance & Quality Review

  • Produce clear, actionable written guidance suitable for non-specialist users
  • Explain clinical reasoning and intervention recommendations in research-grade English
  • Reference relevant standards, frameworks, or best-practice guidance where appropriate
  • Compare assessments against peer input and published best practice
  • Maintain consistency, rigour, and defensibility across clinical recommendations

Ideal Profile

  • 3–5+ years of post-certification experience working directly with adolescents affected by substance use
  • Clinical background in addiction medicine, child or adolescent psychiatry, psychology, or a closely related discipline
  • Active clinical licence or professional registration in good standing
  • Recent adolescent caseload experience within approximately the past two years
  • Strong proficiency with adolescent substance-use screening and severity tools such as CRAFFT, S2BI, DSM-5, and ASAM criteria
  • Familiarity with medication for opioid use disorder and withdrawal-management protocols for individuals under 18
  • Strong clinical reasoning and ability to distinguish experimentation from clinically significant substance-use disorders
  • Experience identifying overdose, withdrawal, safeguarding, and escalation risks
  • Motivational interviewing training is advantageous
  • Adolescent inpatient, crisis, or other high-acuity experience is beneficial
  • Experience developing guidelines, publications, or clinical standards in youth substance-use disorders is advantageous
  • Exceptional written English and ability to communicate nuanced clinical reasoning clearly
  • No prior experience in AI training or model evaluation is required

  • Roles are typically filled within approximately 48 hours
