Location - This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person work at North Campus Edmonton. The Santos Salas Research Team is looking for a highly organized and collaborative Research Coordinator to play a central role in leading innovative, community-engaged health research. Working closely with internal and external collaborators, you'll help coordinate multidisciplinary research projects across Alberta and Ontario, ensuring studies are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest ethical and scientific standards. In this dynamic role, you'll oversee project coordination, ethics applications, budgets, timelines, and team communications while mentoring trainees and supervising research staff. You'll contribute to all stages of the research process, from data collection, analysis, and literature reviews to writing reports, publications, grant applications, and knowledge mobilization activities. You'll also build strong relationships with community organizations, patient partners, and other stakeholders to support meaningful, impactful research. The ideal candidate is an exceptional communicator with strong organizational and digital skills, experience in qualitative and community-based participatory research, and a passion for improving health outcomes through collaborative research. Experience in health equity, cancer care, palliative and end-of-life care, and research involving racialized communities is considered a strong asset. Coordination of research studies Work collaboratively with the PI to oversee, plan and coordinate the implementation of research studies Prepare, revise, and update consent forms, ethics submissions, renewals and study modifications, and other study materials (Human Research Ethics Review Board) Secure site approvals Assist in the design and implementation of study protocols and procedures in consultation with the PI Organize and facilitate communications with and the regular functioning of the Patient Advisory Council. Foster and maintain relationships with all members of the research team, co-investigators, decision makers, patient partners and community collaborators, and health care settings, internal and external to the university Data collection and analysis Engage in data collection (recruitment of participants, interviews, focus groups, or other methods as applicable) and data analysis activities as required Coordinate transcription of interviews, focus groups, and meetings as applicable Manage research data in collaboration with the PI and research team Mentoring and supervision of research assistants and trainees Assist the PI with mentoring and supervision of research assistants and trainees Provide direction and instruction to graduate students and/or research assistants Assist the PI with human resource management, including recruitment, hiring, team support and development, and evaluation processes. Knowledge dissemination and grant writing Assist the PI with the preparation of new grant applications: adhering to sponsor guidelines, facilitating communication with co-applicants and collaborators, following application requirements, drafting and securing letters of support, planning research budget, and compiling needed documentation, including CVs. Assist with the identification of strategic funding opportunities Maintain an up-to-date written synthesis of research evidence pertaining to the studies led by the PI Support knowledge dissemination, including the preparation of study reports, summaries and oral presentations Master’s degree in health or social sciences and research project management experience is required Knowledge of health equity, cancer care, and palliative and end-of-life care Research experience with racialized populations and other groups experiencing social and health inequities will be highly desirable. Knowledge and previous research experience with qualitative research methodologies. Knowledge of patient-oriented research or an earnest willingness to acquire it quickly Experience with patient and community engagement Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written. Experience with grant and publication writing is required. Ability to work well with others and to work independently Superior organizational skills, accuracy and attention to detail Solid information technology skills: computer proficiency, Microsoft office, Windows environments, Google Suite©, REDCap©, Citrix, EndNote©, and other internet-based tools. A high degree of comfort working remotely and in a hybrid modality. When working on campus, all individuals will work in a strictly scent-free environment. Staff members will be required to avoid scented products including perfumes and any other fragranced products such as laundry detergents, softeners, and other personal care products.
