Job Title: Research Senior Technician Department: Nursing | College Administration The Ohio State University invites applications for one part-time Research Senior Technician. This role will work closely with Dr. Christine Kimpel, an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing. Dr. Kimpel’s research focuses on developing communication and healthcare planning interventions for adults with low income in the community setting. The overall goal of these studies will be to co-design advance care planning interventions with communities with low socioeconomic status (two using qualitative methods, community-engaged co-design with community advisory boards, and feasibility testing with mixed methods). The research senior technician will assist with recruitment and consenting of the advisory board and research participants. The community advisory board will likely hold in-person meetings in the community. There will be six bi-monthly meetings and five co-design workshop meetings (each lasting approximately one hour). During meetings, the senior research assistant will be expected to take excellent notes regarding board members’ feedback on the intervention and research study. Outside of these meetings, responsibilities will include conducting day-to-day study operations: team meetings, recruitment, corresponding with board members/scheduling meetings (such as responding to emails/calls/texts), reviewing and analyzing meeting notes, coordinating payments for board members and participants, and other data collection activities. Additionally, the research senior technician will contribute to longer-term projects and tasks including institutional review board submissions/modifications, grant writing, manuscript development, and other project-related tasks as needed. Minimum Education and years of experience required : Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience required; 4 years of relevant experience required with High School diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience required with Associate's Degree, or 0 years of relevant experience required with Bachelor's Degree. Desired Qualifications : Ability to work independently and as part of a team Strong interpersonal and communication skills Strong organizational skills, including time management Exceptional attention to detail Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint) Comfort with learning how to use software programs for surveys (Such as REDCap and Qualtrics) and data processing (such as SPSS, and MAXQDA) Comfort with learning how to interact with research participants Access to reliable transportation for community site visits Comfort with working community members that have very low income and patients with substance use disorders/problems Prior experience working in a research setting, data collection/analysis experience, and other research-related experience preferred Additional Information: Term status Location: On-site and hybrid applications will be considered. Function : Research and Scholarship Subfunction : Research Career Band : Individual Contributor - Technical Career Level : T3 Salary Range : $19.28 - $25.19 Responsibilities Breakdown by Percentage 30% Participant Recruitment and Tracking Coordinates recruitment, screening, enrollment, scheduling, and retention activities across multiple studies. Maintains participant tracking systems, monitors study progress, and ensures accurate documentation. Resolves routine recruitment challenges independently while complying with IRB, regulatory, and confidentiality requirements. 20% Qualitative and Quantitative Data Collection Collects qualitative and quantitative data through interviews, surveys, focus groups, and other study procedures following established protocols. Ensures data quality, completeness, and compliance with research requirements. Maintains study documentation and supports successful implementation of research activities across projects. 20% Qualitative and Quantitative Data Analysis Performs data cleaning, management, and qualitative and quantitative analyses using established methodologies and software. Identifies patterns, interprets findings with research team guidance, and prepares reports, tables, and figures to support study objectives, presentations, publications, and funding applications. 15% Research Team Communication and Collaboration Collaborates with investigators, research staff, students, and community partners to coordinate study activities. Participates in project meetings, communicates progress, addresses implementation issues, and supports adherence to project timelines. Assists with training and onboarding personnel on study procedures as needed. 15% Manuscript and Grant Preparation Contributes to manuscripts, presentations, reports, and grant proposals through literature reviews, data summaries, drafting sections, and preparation of tables and figures. Collaborates with investigators to interpret findings and disseminate research results to scientific and community audiences.
