We are recruiting a Dutch-speaking restructuring professional to join the Amsterdam team of a global advisory firm. The team works with Dutch and international businesses, their owners and their lenders at the moments that matter most: when cash runs short, a refinancing deadline is coming up, or the capital structure no longer fits the business.
The opportunity combines the pace and visibility of a small team led by senior people with the reach and resources of a firm operating in more than 30 countries.
About the firm
Our client is a global advisory business with several thousand professionals worldwide and a restructuring practice of several hundred specialists across the major financial centres. It has continued to strengthen its European restructuring business with senior hires in key markets, and the Amsterdam team works alongside colleagues in London and other jurisdictions on cross-border situations. Valuation, forensic and disputes specialists sit in the same Amsterdam office, so difficult cases can draw on in-house expertise rather than being passed between separate advisers.
About the team
The Amsterdam restructuring group is small and led by senior advisers whose backgrounds span lender-side restructuring, advisory work and CFO roles. Its leadership has long-standing relationships with Dutch banks, direct lenders and private equity houses. Clients range from founder- and family-owned companies to private equity portfolio businesses and larger corporate groups. They typically have revenues from the tens of millions into the low billions, in sectors that have included consumer and retail, food production and shipping.
The role
You will be involved across the full life of an engagement, from the first assessment of liquidity through to agreeing and implementing a solution with management, shareholders and lenders. The work centres on financial restructuring, refinancing and debt advisory, with exposure to operational turnaround and M&A where a situation calls for it.
What you will work on
- Building integrated financial models and short-term cash-flow forecasts, then stress-testing them to show boards and lenders how much headroom the business really has.
- Running or contributing to independent business reviews, challenging management plans against operational reality, market data and the company's own track record.
- Working out how much debt a business can sustainably carry, comparing alternative capital structures and helping shape refinancing proposals for banks, direct lenders and other funders.
- Weighing up the available routes, from consensual refinancings to court-confirmed plans under the WHOA and, where necessary, insolvency scenarios.
- Supporting sale and capital-raising processes in stressed situations, including valuation input where it shapes the outcome.
- Contributing to operational turnaround work when the financial solution depends on fixing the underlying business.
- Preparing clear, decision-ready reports and presentations for boards, shareholders and lenders, and taking a growing share of day-to-day client contact.
- Playing an active part in proposals and business development as the practice grows; at Manager level, running engagements day to day and coaching junior colleagues.
Target Profile:
- Fluent Dutch is essential for working directly with Dutch owners, management teams and lenders; strong English is needed for cross-border engagements.
- Relevant experience in restructuring or turnaround advisory, debt advisory, corporate finance, transaction services, or a bank's restructuring or special-assets team.
- Strong modelling, accounting and cash-flow skills, and the judgement to turn analysis into a clear recommendation.
- Well-structured writing and presentation skills, and the confidence to hold your own with CFOs, owners and lenders.
- A practical, decisive working style and composure when timelines are tight and stakeholders disagree.
- A degree in finance, economics, business, econometrics or law with a strong financial grounding.
- For Manager-level candidates, experience leading workstreams and developing junior team members.
- Exposure to WHOA processes, lender negotiations or distressed M&A will be a clear advantage.
Why this role
- Senior access from day one: in a small team you work directly with the people who lead the client relationships, with early responsibility on live mandates.
- Boutique feel, global platform: the client closeness of a local team, backed by an international brand and in-house valuation, forensic and disputes expertise.
- Breadth of exposure: company-side and lender-side work, financial and operational restructuring, refinancing and stressed M&A. That gives you a wider toolkit than many roles focused on a single product.
- A practice in growth mode: the firm continues to invest in restructuring across Europe, giving the right person a real opportunity to help shape the Amsterdam practice as it develops.
- Market timing: with more than one in eight European corporates showing signs of financial distress, this is an active market in which to build or accelerate a restructuring career.
- Hybrid working from Amsterdam.
