About HappyRobot
HappyRobot is the infrastructure for enterprises to build and orchestrate AI workforces. Our AI workers don't just communicate through voice and email - they make decisions, take action, and run operations autonomously across entire enterprise systems. Born in Y Combinator (S23) and backed by a16z, Base10, Prysm Capital, and Eurazeo with over $150M raised, we power critical operations for global enterprises worldwide.
Our platform is battle-tested in the most demanding environments, where AI has real consequences. We started in logistics, built our own voice stack, models, and orchestration layer from the ground up, and are now bringing that infrastructure to every enterprise that runs the real economy. Role Overview
HappyRobot is hiring a Revenue Accounting Lead, a builder who will help stand up our revenue accounting function from scratch, reporting to the Head of Accounting. Our revenue model is genuinely technical: platform fees, compute credits, professional services, and usage overages, each with its own recognition pattern, which will need to be automated.
This is a 0-to-1 job. You and the Head of Accounting will design the process and the system flow at the same time together, and you'll be expected to automate the tasks and processes using AI finance tools (including our own platform). If you think like a finance engineer, someone who builds scalable systems, not just someone who processes transactions, this role is built for you.
What You'll Do
Build the revenue close, not just run it: design the monthly and quarterly revenue close process, revenue recognition for the platform-and-credit consumed, professional services, and overages and automate each step as you stabilize it.
Identify every manual, repetitive revenue task and systematically replace it with automation via systems or AI agents with clear judgment about which steps still need “human-in-the-loop” and which don't.
Own and configure our revenue sub-ledger once the new ERP is stood up, including the credit-pool breakage calculation and monthly true-up, building the system flow from initial setup rather than inheriting one.
Partner with Sales and the Deal Desk (RevOps) to review new and non-standard contracts, value-based pricing, custom deal structures and get the right ASC 606 treatment built into the process before contracts are signed.
Own AR accounting end-to-end: reconciliations, aging, and the allowance for doubtful accounts, with automation wherever the volume justifies it.
Help build the first revenue policy memo and other revenue-related technical policies including judgment calls like the distinct-versus-combined performance obligation analysis on platform-and-credits — audit-ready from day one, not reconstructed later.
What You'll Bring
4-6 years of progressive revenue accounting experience, ideally including usage-based, consumption, or SaaS revenue models.
A finance engineer's mindset: you build scalable systems that reduce manual work and increase accuracy, not just process what's in front of you.
Proven, hands-on experience using AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) in your actual day-to-day work, and comfort picking up new automation tools quickly.
Strong judgment about which accounting activities should be automated and which genuinely require human review.
Solid working knowledge of ASC 606, including performance obligation analysis and variable consideration judgment.
A clear communicator who can explain revenue recognition to engineers, salespeople, and founders without jargon.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field; CPA or progress toward CPA a plus, not required.

Our Operating Principles
Extreme Ownership
We take full responsibility for our work, outcomes, and team success. No excuses, no blame-shifting — if something needs fixing, we own it and make it better. This means stepping up, even when it's not "your job." If a ball is dropped, we pick it up. If a process is broken, we redesign it. We don't wait for someone else to solve it — we lead with accountability and expect the same from those around us.
Craftsmanship
Putting care and intention into every task, striving for excellence, and taking deep ownership of the quality and outcome of your work. Craftsmanship means never settling for "just fine." We sweat the details because details compound. We aim to deliver jaw-dropping outcomes by being curious, meticulous, and proud of what we build — even when nobody's watching.
We are "majos"
Be friendly and have fun with your coworkers. Always be genuine and honest, but kind. "Majo" is our way of saying: be a good human. Be approachable, helpful, and warm. We give feedback with kindness, challenge each other with respect, and celebrate wins together without ego.
Urgency with Focus
Create the highest impact in the shortest amount of time. Move fast, but in the right direction. We prioritize ruthlessly, act decisively, and stay aligned. We're running a high-speed marathon, not a sprint with no strategy.
Talent Density and Meritocracy
Hire only people who can raise the average; exceptional performance is the passing grade. Ability trumps seniority. We reward contribution, not titles or tenure.
First-Principles Thinking
Strip a problem to physics-level facts, ignore industry dogma, rebuild the solution from scratch. We don't copy-paste solutions.
