Description Summary of Role The Preadmission Nurse reflects the Center’s mission by participating in the provision of quality, convenient, cost effective, patient focused surgical care. Under minimum supervision, the Preadmission Nurse provides efficient patient services in the preadmission area and adheres to all policies and procedures of the facility. Travel as assigned to satellite locations, and basic computer knowledge. This position is hybrid with 1-3 days in office at our Pewaukee location. Key Responsibilities · Plan, organize, and implement the preadmission process to support safe, timely, and efficient patient care. · Contact patients in advance of scheduled procedures and provide appropriate pre-procedure instructions and preparatory information to patients and families. · Assess patient needs based on diagnosis and planned procedure, including identifying single, multiple, or complex preadmission and scheduling needs. · Ensure all preadmission requirements are completed in a timely manner, including documentation for add-on cases. · Obtain and document physician orders and ensure they are available for appropriate diagnostic testing. · Maintain complete, accurate, concise, and timely patient documentation and ensure patient records are free from deficiencies or errors. · Communicate appropriate and timely patient information, including allergies, medications, and other relevant clinical information, to surgeons, anesthesiologists, coworkers, and other members of the care team. · Coordinate with facility departments and physician office staff regarding pre-operative requirements and scheduling processes. · Manage and prioritize patient calls and other preadmission responsibilities to support timely completion of patient care needs. · Communicate with patients and families in a professional, supportive, and understandable manner, including answering questions, addressing concerns, providing clear instructions, and reassuring anxious patients. · Identify patients with special needs and assist with appropriate accommodations or resolution of concerns. · Handle patient complaints and concerns in a responsive, professional, and respectful manner. · Maintain current knowledge of applicable nursing standards, policies, procedures, and practices related to position responsibilities. · Maintain patient confidentiality and protect proprietary information in accordance with applicable policies and requirements. · Maintain all required professional licenses and/or certifications. · Follow facility safety precautions and comply with applicable health and safety policies and procedures. · Participate in quality assurance monitoring and identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and effectiveness and prevent errors. · Attend and participate in required in-service programs, communication groups, and staff meetings. · Collaborate professionally with patients, families, coworkers, providers, and physician office staff and respond to requests in a timely manner. · Complete assigned tasks, procedures, and patient cases accurately and timely and follow through as needed Requirements Qualifications Required · Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (RN). · Current Wisconsin Registered Nurse (RN) license. · Current BLS certification. · Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and time-management skills. · Ability to multitask, prioritize responsibilities, and make timely decisions in a fast-paced environment. · Strong verbal and written communication skills. · Ability to maintain confidentiality and provide high-quality, professional patient service. · Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team, build trust, and interact respectfully with patients, families, providers, and coworkers. · Ability to demonstrate empathy and patience and remain composed during high-volume or stressful situations. Preferred · Three years of surgical nursing experience, preferably in an ambulatory surgery center. · Preadmission nursing experience. · Experience using Epic EMR. Physical and Mental Demands · Ability to remain seated for extended periods with intermittent standing and walking. · Ability to bend, kneel, reach, stoop, and crouch as needed to perform job duties. · Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull objects weighing up to 30 pounds. · Ability to adapt to varying situations and changing priorities. · Ability to maintain focus, organization, and sound judgment in a fast-paced healthcare environment. Work Environment · Work is primarily performed in a clean, well-lit, and ventilated healthcare environment. · Must be willing and able to travel between OAW locations as needed. · Must be able to work flexible days and hours as needed, including evenings.
