Job Summary

The Safety & Compliance Trainer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering high-quality learning programs that strengthen safety, safeguarding, child protection, health, and compliance practices across the organization. Reporting to the VP of Safety & Compliance, this role translates regulatory requirements, organizational policies, emerging risks, and lessons learned into practical and engaging training that supports team members at all levels.
The role is designed to support a large, geographically diverse organization through scalable learning solutions. Rather than relying primarily on centre-by-centre training, the Safety & Compliance Trainer will develop standardized training resources, facilitate virtual learning, and utilize a train-the-trainer model to equip operational and field leaders to effectively deliver safety and safeguarding education within the teams.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Safeguarding Training

• Develop and maintain comprehensive training programs related to child safety, safeguarding, supervision, child accountability, safe sleep, emergency preparedness, incident prevention, health and safety, mandated reporting, and other areas or organizational risk.

• Translate complex regulatory requirements, organizational policies, and safety expectations into clear, practical, and engaging learning experiences.

• Design training for multiple delivery methods, including instructor-led virtual sessions, train-the-trainer programs, webinars, workshops, e-learning content, job aids, toolkits, and other learning resources.

• Establish and manage a train-the-trainer model that equips designated leaders and subject matter experts to consistently deliver approved Safety & Compliance training.

• Prepare facilitators through structured training, facilitator guides, presentation materials, practice opportunities, and ongoing support.

• Establish processes to evaluate and maintain trainer competency and consistency.

• Facilitate virtual safety and safeguarding training directly when organizational needs, emerging risks, or specific initiatives require.

• Develop targeted refresher or remedial training in response to audit findings, incident trends, regulatory findings, or identified knowledge gaps.

• Regularly review and update training materials to ensure content remains current, relevant, and aligned with organizational standards.

• Support implementation of new Safety & Compliance policies, procedures, tools, and initiatives through education and change support.

• Evaluate training effectiveness using participation data, learner feedback, knowledge assessments, observed practice, audit results, incident trends, and other available measures.

• Maintain organized and current training materials, facilitator resources, and related documentation.

Compliance & Regulatory Oversight

• Partner with Director of Safety & Compliance to ensure training accurately reflects applicable regulatory requirements and organizational policies.

• Support processes for tracking completion of required safety, compliance, and safeguarding training.

• Assist in identifying training-related compliance gaps and recommend appropriate corrective or preventative learning solutions.

• Partner with stakeholders to support effective deployment and tracking of required training through established learning systems.

Safeguarding & Child Protection

• Serve as a key training resource for organizational safeguarding and child protection expectations.

• Ensure safeguarding training reinforces team members' individual responsibility to act when a child may be at risk.

• Incorporate realistic scenarios and practical decision-making exercises that help team members recognize potential safeguarding concerns and understand appropriate responses and escalation.

• Promote a culture in which safeguarding is understood as a shared responsibility, and the safety and well-being of children remain central to decision-making.

Qualifications

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, training and development or a related field preferred.

• 2+ years in early childhood education, training, learning and development, or related field required.

• An equivalent combination of education, training, and progressively responsible experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements.

• Experience developing and delivering instructor-led, virtual, and train-the-trainer learning programs.

• Strong facilitation, presentation, written communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to evaluate training effectiveness and adjust learning based on feedback, audit findings, incidents, and emerging risks.

• Proficiency with standard technology, virtual training platforms, presentation software, and learning management systems.

What Success Looks Like

• Model a visible and consistent commitment to child safety, safeguarding, health, and compliance.

• Build credibility and trust through subject matter expertise, preparation, consistency, and follow-through.

• Demonstrate the ability to influence behavior and strengthen safety culture through education.

• Create psychologically safe learning environments in which team members can ask questions, discuss difficult situations, and strengthen their understanding.

• Approach learning with curiosity and a continuous improvement mindset.

• Demonstrate sound judgment when questions or concerns should be escalated.

• Encourage ownership and accountability at every level of the organization.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Ability to travel periodically, including overnight travel where required for training, meetings, and other business needs.

• Ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, and move in a variety of environments for an extended period while facilitating training sessions or visiting centres.

• Ability to occasionally lift or carry materials or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.

• Ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time.

• Must be able to meet applicable background screening.
