Have a technical degree but want to move out of research and into sales? This role is a structured way in.
Our client is a global manufacturer of spectroscopy and photonics instruments, and part of an international, listed technology group. They’re hiring a Sales Engineer to look after universities, research institutes, and industrial R&D labs across South Germany.
What you’ll do
- Handle a steady flow of inbound leads in one of the company’s most active territories
- Help researchers choose the right instrument for their application
- Give first-line technical guidance throughout the sales cycle
- Represent the company at conferences, trade shows, and on-site “spectroscopy days”
- Gradually build a proactive pipeline by tracking new research budgets, spin-offs, and lab set-ups
What they’re looking for
- A technical degree, ideally in chemistry, physics, or material science (engineering and biology also considered)
- One to three years’ experience, ideally customer-facing or in technical sales. Recent graduates who clearly want a sales career are welcome to apply.
- Confidence presenting to scientists and engineers
- Fluent German and strong English
- The right to work in Germany
Spectroscopy knowledge is a bonus but not required. Full product and application training is provided, including a visit to the company’s US headquarters.
The set-up
- Home-based in South Germany, ideally near Stuttgart
- Around 30 to 40% travel, mostly to conferences and customer visits
- Competitive package with health and wellness benefits
- A clear route into business development and key account roles as you grow
