About the role

We’re building a new Sales Engineering function within Tyro’s Technology team, focused on helping enterprise merchants and integration partners get live and delivering value faster. As Sales Engineering Lead, you’ll establish how the function operates while staying firmly hands-on, personally leading our most complex and strategically important integrations. You’ll work across customers, Sales, Enterprise Onboarding & Implementation, Product and Engineering to own technical feasibility and accelerate time to first transaction. As the team grows, you’ll spend more time coaching and leading while remaining close to customers and delivery.

What you'll do

  • Build the Function: Recruit and grow a small team of Sales Engineers, establishing playbooks, reference architectures and effective ways of working.

  • Lead Complex Integrations: Personally own our most complex and high-value enterprise and partner integrations from technical design through to validated go-live.

  • Accelerate Time to Value: Drive integrations towards a fast first successful transaction, identifying blockers early and keeping technical delivery moving.

  • Shape & Solve: Design practical, scalable and secure integration approaches, working directly with customer engineering teams to solve issues across payment flows, APIs, webhooks and reconciliation.

  • Own Technical Delivery: Lead the technical workstream alongside Enterprise Onboarding & Implementation, with clear milestones, dependencies, risks and handover.

  • Partner Across Tyro: Support selected late-stage opportunities and create a strong feedback loop with Product and Engineering to improve APIs, tooling and developer experience.

  • Coach & Scale: Mentor the team, set expectations around technical delivery and customer ownership, and help prioritise work as enterprise demand grows

What you'll bring

  • Technical Depth: Strong experience across APIs, backend systems and integration patterns, with the ability to design solutions, read code and troubleshoot complex integrations.

  • Integration Delivery: A track record of taking complex enterprise or partner integrations from technical design through to successful go-live.

  • Hands-On Leadership: Experience leading or mentoring technical people, with the desire to build a team without stepping away from customer delivery.

  • Customer Confidence: Strong communication skills and the technical credibility to work directly with enterprise engineering teams and senior stakeholders.

  • Payments Knowledge: A solid understanding of online, in-store or API-based payment flows and systems is strongly preferred.

  • Commercial Mindset: You understand the connection between integration speed, customer outcomes and revenue, and balance technical quality with getting customers live.

  • Ownership & Pragmatism: You’re proactive, comfortable with ambiguity and focused on removing blockers and finding practical ways forward.
