About the opportunity
Upstaff is recruiting a Sales Representative on behalf of an early-stage, founder-led technology company that provides fast, affordable websites to small businesses.
The company offers websites that can go live within days and are priced specifically for the small-business market: R500 setup plus R159 per month for hosting.
This is the company’s founding sales position. The successful candidate will work directly with the founder to build, test and refine the sales playbook. Your results and market feedback will play an important role in shaping the company’s future sales strategy and team.
This is a hands-on, outbound sales role. You will be responsible for generating your own leads, managing your pipeline and closing new business.
The sales proposition includes:
- Instant demonstrations: Prospects can be shown a live example of their potential website within minutes.
- Accessible pricing: The low upfront and monthly costs support a short sales cycle, with many opportunities expected to close during the first consultation.
- Full pipeline ownership: You will identify and approach prospects through phone calls, WhatsApp, email and local business networks.
- Clear handover: You will focus on selling and closing. Website design, copywriting and delivery are handled by the onboarding and production team.
Key responsibilities
- Identify small businesses with no website or an outdated website using Google Maps, Facebook groups, local directories and other prospecting channels.
- Generate and manage your own outbound sales pipeline.
- Contact and qualify prospective clients by phone, WhatsApp and email.
- Conduct concise sales consultations with small-business owners.
- Present live website examples tailored to prospective clients.
- Close sales and collect the initial R659 payment, comprising the R500 setup fee and the first month’s R159 hosting fee.
- Follow up consistently with prospects and overcome objections.
- Maintain complete and accurate CRM records for every lead and deal.
- Follow each sale through to launch and maintain a positive client relationship during the handover process.
- Share client objections, competitor insights and market feedback with the founder to improve the sales pitch and process.
- Achieve agreed monthly activity, sales and revenue targets.
Essential requirements
- At least two years of business-to-business technology sales experience, ideally within website services, digital marketing, SaaS or a related digital service.
- A demonstrable record of achieving or exceeding sales targets. Candidates should be prepared to discuss specific performance figures during the interview.
- Experience with short sales cycles or one-call-close environments.
- Confidence in building a pipeline independently through prospecting, follow-up and closing.
- A confident, clear and direct telephone manner when speaking with business owners, including tradespeople and sole proprietors.
- Strong follow-up habits and disciplined CRM use.
- The ability to work independently and reliably in a remote environment.
- Reliable internet access and backup power or connectivity during outages.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
Advantageous experience
- Experience selling AI products, website services or SaaS subscriptions.
- Fluency in Afrikaans.
- Knowledge of POPIA-compliant prospecting practices.
- Experience working in a startup or founding-stage team.
- Established relationships within local small-business networks.
Who will succeed in this role?
This opportunity will suit a proactive and commercially driven salesperson who enjoys building something from the ground up. You should be comfortable working without inbound leads, taking ownership of your results and speaking directly with small-business owners.
You will have a high level of autonomy, but you will also be expected to bring structure, consistency and accountability to your sales activity.
