The RoleWe are looking for an experienced SAP Payroll Configuration Specialist to support and enhance an SAP ECC6 HR Payroll environment.
This is a specialist configuration role rather than a payroll processing position. You will be responsible for delivering payroll configuration changes, supporting legislative updates, working with Personnel Calculation Rules (PCRs), carrying out testing and investigating complex payroll issues.
You will work closely with Payroll, Finance, ICT and other stakeholders, supporting change requests from initial impact assessment through to configuration, implementation and testing.

Key Responsibilities- Configure, maintain and enhance SAP ECC6 HR Payroll solutions.
- Investigate and resolve complex payroll and system issues, carrying out detailed root cause analysis.
- Design and implement payroll configuration changes, including Personnel Calculation Rules (PCRs).
- Assess, configure, test and implement system changes and enhancement requests.
- Support payroll-related projects, legislative updates and SAP support pack upgrades.
- Carry out system testing and User Acceptance Testing (UAT), investigating and resolving defects.
- Ensure configuration changes are accurately documented and recorded.
- Work closely with Payroll, Finance, ICT and other stakeholders to deliver effective payroll solutions.
- Provide specialist advice on SAP functionality, SAP Notes, support packs and potential system improvements.
- Contribute to the stability, performance and continuous improvement of the SAP Payroll environment.
- Proven experience working with SAP ECC6 Payroll configuration in a complex business environment.
- Strong hands-on experience configuring SAP Payroll functionality.
- Good understanding of SAP HR and Payroll processes, including how HR configuration and data affect payroll.
- Experience investigating and resolving complex payroll or system issues.
- Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving skills.
- Experience assessing, configuring, testing and implementing system changes and enhancements.
- Experience working with Personnel Calculation Rules (PCRs).
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a remote environment.
- Experience with SAP Employee Central Payroll (ECP), SAP HCM or SuccessFactors.
- Knowledge of HMRC RTI interfaces and payroll-related legislation.
- Experience supporting legislative payroll changes, SAP support packs and SAP Notes.
- Experience working within the public sector, government or another highly regulated environment.
- Knowledge of civil service payroll, pension schemes or statutory absence processes.
To be considered for this position, you should have:
- Proven SAP ECC6 Payroll configuration experience, or closely related SAP Payroll experience such as ECP.
- Strong hands-on payroll configuration expertise.
- Experience working on payroll configuration rather than solely payroll processing.
- Experience managing configuration changes from initial assessment through to implementation and testing.
- Experience troubleshooting complex SAP Payroll issues and identifying root causes.
