Anticipated Salary Range: $110,000 - $150,000

Knowesis is seeking Scientific Review Officers (SROs) for remote positions managing the scientific and operational aspects of the peer review process. SROs determine the expertise needed for assigned peer review activities, evaluate and select qualified reviewers, prepare reviewers for the evaluation process, facilitate peer review meetings, and ensure that review criteria are applied consistently and review outcomes are documented accurately. Travel may be required for peer review meetings or related activities.

The Job Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

• Determine the expertise needed for assigned peer review activities and evaluate, select, and assign qualified reviewers.
• Provide reviewers with guidance on applicable review policies, criteria, scoring, confidentiality, and conflicts of interest; monitor critique quality, completeness, and submission.
• Administer and facilitate peer review meetings in accordance with established policies and applicable client requirements.
• Prepare and review required documentation to ensure that peer review activities and outcomes are accurately and defensibly documented.

Required Qualifications:

• A PhD, MD, DVM, or equivalent research or clinical doctoral degree in a relevant discipline.
• At least five years of relevant professional experience following completion of the qualifying doctoral degree.
• Scientific credibility and professional judgment sufficient to guide accomplished researchers and clinicians.
• Outstanding verbal and scientific writing skills, meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational and time-management skills, and the ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to troubleshoot problems, respond promptly to time-sensitive issues, and consistently apply established policies while maintaining confidentiality and scientific integrity.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams, Zoom, and web-based systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ten or more years of relevant professional experience following completion of the qualifying doctoral degree.
• Experience managing federal biomedical or health research peer review, particularly for CDMRP or a comparable organization.
• Clinical, military health research, Military Treatment Facility, or Department of Defense laboratory experience.
