Scott AFB UPP Data Engineer Apprentice

This is a part-time flexible Hybrid position designed to accommodate students in good standing with their university. The ideal candidate will be a junior or senior bachelor's degree student or a master's degree student pursuing a degree in data sciences, data analytics, mathematics, computer science, software development, or related field. A professor recommendation is required. Travel to Scott Air Force Base IL is required. This position requires a U.S. Security Clearance. Only U.S. citizens eligible for U.S. Security Clearance should apply.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

This position requires the performance of tasks related to research, development, deployment, and enhancement of enterprise-wide data science and software solutions using mathematical methods, modeling and programming, machine learning, natural language processing, deep learning, spatial analysis, robotics process automation, artificial intelligence, hands-on coding, and debugging, on behalf of the government customer and SBCC.

• Collaborate on data science and software development projects supporting operational systems and analytics platforms.
• Utilize common data science tools, including scripted languages (such as R, Python, SQL, and JavaScript), analytics platforms, open-source/commercial off-the - shelf solutions to develop data science products.
• Write, test, and maintain code using modern programming languages and frameworks.
• Participate in the design and implementation of databases and APIs.
• Assist in troubleshooting, debugging, and optimizing software applications.
• Contribute to documentation, reporting, and presentations for stakeholders.
• Work independently and as part of a team to solve technical challenges.
• Learn and apply new technologies and development practices.
• Occasionally provide administrative support related to project documentation and coordination.

• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Travel required

• Commute to and from Scott AFB, IL as needed.
• Occasional travel to meet with USG clients or attend conferences.

Required education and experience

• At least two years of higher education completed and pursuing bachelor's degree in data sciences, data analytics, mathematics, computer science, software development, or related field. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. OR
• Pursuing master's degree in data sciences, data analytics, mathematics, computer science, software development, or related field. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

Preferred education and experience

• Knowledge of languages such as R, Python, SQL, and JavaScript
• Pursing master's degree: data sciences, data analytics, mathematics, computer science, software development, or related field
• Pursuing bachelor's degree (minimum of two years of higher education, highly desirable junior or senior): data sciences, data analytics, mathematics, computer science, software development, or related field. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.

Additional required eligibility requirements

• Lives in or commutable distance to Scott AFB IL.

Work authorization/security clearance requirements

• United States Citizen.
• Ability to obtain secret clearance.
