About the Seafood Academy Programme

Seafood Academy is BIM’s seafood education programme for post-primary schools. It is designed as a one-day school-based workshop for Transition Year students and introduces young people to Ireland’s seafood sector through classroom learning, practical activities, fishmonger input, cooking and tasting.

The programme aims to build students’ understanding of seafood, where it comes from, how it reaches consumers, how it can be prepared, and the role it can play in a healthy and balanced diet. It also seeks to make the role of the fishmonger more visible and accessible to young people.

H2 Learning is responsible for managing the delivery of Seafood Academy in schools. This includes school recruitment, scheduling, facilitator preparation, fishmonger coordination, materials management, safeguarding, food safety, feedback collection, quality assurance and reporting to BIM.

Purpose of the Role

The Programme Manager will lead the day-to-day management and delivery of Seafood Academy on behalf of H2 Learning. The role will involve coordinating schools, facilitators, fishmongers, resources, schedules and reporting so that the programme is delivered safely, consistently and to a high standard across participating schools.

The Programme Manager will act as a key point of contact for schools, fishmongers, BIM and the wider H2 Learning team, and will ensure that all practical arrangements are confirmed in advance. They will also act as the main in-school facilitator for Seafood Academy workshops, to deliver engaging, practical and safe sessions that are consistent with the programme.

Additional facilitators may be brought in to support delivery where needed, for example to meet scheduling demands, support geographic spread, or provide additional delivery capacity. The Programme Manager will help train and coordinate these facilitators so that delivery remains consistent across schools.

This role requires strong project management, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, knowledge of seafood or the seafood sector, confidence facilitating learning with young people, and experience of working with schools or education programmes.

The role will involve school-facing work and will require Garda vetting. The successful candidate will be expected to follow H2 Learning’s safeguarding, data protection, health and safety, and school visitor procedures. The role will require flexibility around school calendars, delivery schedules and travel.

The role will also involve supporting coordination with other BIM education programmes, including the Aquaculture Remote Classroom (ARC) and School of Fish, to ensure that school engagement, communications and delivery planning are aligned where appropriate.

Essential Criteria

The successful candidate should have:

• Experience managing education, outreach, school engagement or youth-focused programmes
• Strong project management and coordination skills
• Knowledge of seafood, food education or the seafood sector
• Excellent administration, record-keeping and attention to detail
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Confidence facilitating practical, engaging learning sessions with students
• Confidence working independently and as part of a wider project team
• Full clean driving licence and access to transport

Desirable Criteria

The following would be an advantage:

• Teaching qualification or experience working in post-primary schools
• Experience in food education, Home Economics, nutrition, seafood, sustainability or related areas
• Familiarity with food safety, hygiene or practical cookery activities in education settings
• Experience coordinating school-based workshops or national school programmes
• Experience with evaluation tools, surveys, feedback collection or programme reporting
• Experience working with public bodies or publicly funded education programmes
