The Role

We are seeking an experienced Semiconductor Equipment Manager to lead semiconductor manufacturing equipment strategy, engineering, maintenance, performance optimization, installation, qualification, and lifecycle management.

The ideal candidate will manage equipment supporting wafer fabrication, assembly, packaging, testing, and related semiconductor operations, ensuring high equipment availability, process stability, productivity, safety, and cost performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement semiconductor equipment strategies aligned with manufacturing, technology, capacity, quality, and business objectives.
  • Manage equipment engineering and maintenance activities across semiconductor manufacturing operations.
  • Lead equipment teams responsible for installation, qualification, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization.
  • Manage equipment supporting lithography, deposition, etch, cleaning, diffusion, ion implantation, CMP, metrology, inspection, wafer handling, assembly, packaging, and testing as applicable.
  • Establish equipment performance standards, maintenance strategies, operating procedures, and engineering requirements.
  • Manage equipment installation, relocation, commissioning, qualification, and production release.
  • Coordinate equipment acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, process qualification, and production ramp-up.
  • Monitor equipment availability, utilization, uptime, downtime, cycle time, throughput, and reliability.
  • Develop preventive, predictive, condition-based, and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Optimize maintenance intervals based on equipment performance, failure history, process requirements, and lifecycle economics.
  • Lead troubleshooting of complex equipment failures and recurring technical problems.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis for equipment failures, process interruptions, yield-impacting events, and unplanned downtime.
  • Coordinate equipment recovery plans following major failures or production disruptions.
  • Manage critical equipment spare parts, consumables, tools, and maintenance resources.
  • Establish equipment lifecycle plans covering acquisition, qualification, operation, upgrades, refurbishment, and retirement.
  • Evaluate equipment obsolescence and develop replacement or upgrade strategies.
  • Manage equipment capacity planning and identify bottlenecks affecting manufacturing throughput.
  • Support capacity expansion, technology transitions, fab expansions, line conversions, and production ramp programs.
  • Evaluate new semiconductor manufacturing equipment, technologies, suppliers, and system architectures.
  • Prepare technical and commercial evaluations for equipment purchases, upgrades, retrofits, and automation projects.
  • Develop capital expenditure proposals including technical justification, ROI, capacity benefits, risk, and lifecycle cost.
  • Manage equipment procurement, supplier selection, technical specifications, installation requirements, and acceptance criteria.
  • Coordinate with equipment OEMs, system integrators, service providers, contractors, and technology partners.
  • Establish vendor performance requirements, service-level agreements, response times, warranties, and technical support expectations.
  • Monitor supplier performance, equipment quality, service responsiveness, spare-parts availability, and technical support.
  • Work closely with process engineering to ensure equipment capability supports required process windows and product specifications.
  • Support process development, equipment matching, process transfer, technology qualification, and new-product introduction.
  • Coordinate equipment engineering changes, upgrades, software revisions, hardware modifications, and configuration control.
  • Maintain accurate equipment configuration, maintenance history, engineering change, and qualification records.
  • Integrate equipment with manufacturing execution systems, automation platforms, factory control systems, data systems, and monitoring tools.
  • Promote equipment automation, advanced diagnostics, predictive analytics, remote monitoring, and intelligent maintenance.
  • Develop equipment health-monitoring programs using sensors, statistical analysis, condition monitoring, and predictive techniques.
  • Analyze equipment data to identify degradation, abnormal behavior, performance trends, and improvement opportunities.
  • Monitor equipment impact on yield, defects, process capability, cycle time, and production performance.
  • Support statistical process control and equipment-related process capability improvement.
  • Coordinate with facilities teams regarding utilities, cleanroom requirements, gases, chemicals, vacuum, exhaust, power, cooling, and environmental conditions.
  • Ensure equipment complies with cleanroom, EHS, chemical safety, electrical safety, machine safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support risk assessments, MOC, equipment safety reviews, incident investigations, and emergency-response planning.
  • Develop equipment emergency procedures, recovery plans, and business-continuity strategies.
  • Manage equipment engineering budgets, maintenance costs, service contracts, spare parts, and capital investments.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce equipment operating costs, maintenance expenses, energy consumption, and production losses.
  • Train, coach, and develop equipment engineers, technicians, and technical support teams.
  • Establish competency standards, technical training programs, certification requirements, and knowledge-transfer processes.
  • Promote Lean, Six Sigma, TPM, reliability engineering, and continuous-improvement methodologies.
  • Benchmark equipment performance against internal standards, suppliers, industry practices, and technology roadmaps.
  • Provide management with regular reports covering equipment availability, reliability, capacity, costs, risks, projects, and improvement initiatives.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate should have strong experience in semiconductor equipment engineering, semiconductor manufacturing, wafer fabrication, assembly and test, equipment maintenance, automation, or advanced electronics manufacturing.

The candidate should demonstrate:

  • Proven experience managing semiconductor manufacturing equipment or advanced production equipment teams.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes and associated equipment.
  • Knowledge of lithography, deposition, etch, cleaning, CMP, diffusion, implantation, metrology, inspection, assembly, packaging, or testing technologies.
  • Strong understanding of vacuum systems, robotics, motion control, pneumatics, hydraulics, thermal systems, RF systems, optics, sensors, and precision equipment.
  • Experience with preventive, predictive, condition-based, and corrective maintenance.
  • Strong troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capabilities.
  • Experience managing equipment installation, commissioning, qualification, and production release.
  • Understanding of equipment-process interaction and equipment impact on yield and product quality.
  • Experience with semiconductor equipment OEMs, suppliers, contractors, and service providers.
