Summary: The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing and managing the critical accounting functions within the organization, most critically the payroll function, in order to produce efficient and accurate financial reporting. The accounting manager will also assist with critical project related maintenance, asset tracking, cash receipts, insurance, staff training, staff supervision, and credit card accounting. Essential Functions including the following, but not limited to the below. Oversee the payroll process and assist with management of the other core functions of the department including billing, invoicing, cash management, job costing, project requirement maintenance and tracking. Work within the accounting department and beyond to achieve the organization’s objectives. Assist in developing, documenting, and enforcing standard operating procedures. Support the Senior Controller in financial decisions and monitor adherence to policies and internal controls. Support the team and Senior Controller with month end close, financial and variance reports, WIP schedules and Cost to Complete estimates. Assist the Senior Controller with financial statement audits and preparation of state and local tax returns. Ensure that current processes and results comply with relevant regulation and law. Help to create a culture and practices that make our records accurate and the access to those records secure and simple. Help to create a workplace that encourages personal development and growth as well as transparent communication and feedback Utilize personnel and technological resources to ensure efficient and effective financial reporting. Monitor and test the effectiveness of internal controls. Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 2 / 4 year accounting certificate / degree or relevant work experience 5 – 10 years in an accounting department, construction is preferred At least 5 years of experience in management of at least one direct report Strong business analyst, keenly adept at cost accounting and GAAP Strong computer skills, including MS Excel, ComputerEase a plus Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills, business and financial acumen Expert with processes and controls, sound judgment and operational focus Experience with hiring, training and developing staff and managing employees at all levels within the organization Outstanding oral and written communication skills Ability to comprehend complex functions and procedures and disseminate that knowledge in a clear and understandable format to others Successful interpersonal skills, able to collaborate internally across functional lines and with external partners Physical Demands/Work Environment: Office, hybrid remote work is available after probationary period Grote Family of Companies is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
