Job Title: Senior Accountant Job Description The Senior Accountant performs a wide range of general accounting functions, including completion and maintenance of the general ledger, posting entries, performing allocations and reconciliations, and preparing financial and statistical reports for internal and external reporting requirements. This role works on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires review of identifiable factors, and exercises sound judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions. The Senior Accountant receives a moderate level of guidance and direction while contributing to accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual period close processes as assigned, ensuring timely and accurate completion of closing activities. Maintain and reconcile assigned general ledger accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies in a timely manner. Maintain various ledgers, journals, registers, and other financial records to support accurate and complete financial reporting. Prepare account reconciliations, cost reports, billings, bank reconciliations, and other financial reports as assigned. Prepare federal, state, and other regulatory reports in accordance with established guidelines and regulatory requirements. Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation for posting approved financial transactions and journal entries into the general ledger. Review and support capital projects from an accounting and reporting perspective, ensuring appropriate treatment and documentation. Perform data entry related to accounting transactions and financial reporting with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Conduct financial analysis to support reporting, decision-making, and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Apply judgment and informed decision-making to develop solutions to complex accounting and financial reporting issues. Communicate complex financial concepts in a simple and accessible manner to non-finance stakeholders, helping them understand the appropriate use and limitations of the information provided. Summarize data and present results clearly and effectively in written and verbal formats for a variety of audiences. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the organization. Manage, organize, and prioritize multiple tasks, adapting to changing priorities while meeting deadlines. Work effectively as both a team player and a leader within the accounting and finance function. Essential Skills Demonstrated experience performing general accounting functions, including journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance. Strong proficiency with Workday financial systems. Hands-on experience with automation tools within the Microsoft ecosystem. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including strong Excel skills. Solid knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements related to accounting and the functional area. Knowledge of regulatory requirements for GAAP, tax issues, and financial reporting. Ability to analyze and develop solutions to complex accounting and financial problems. Ability to apply sound judgment and make informed decisions within defined procedures and practices. Ability to communicate complex financial concepts in simple, clear terms to non-finance users. Ability to communicate effectively in written and verbal formats, including summarizing data and presenting results. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the organization. Ability to manage, organize, prioritize, and multi-task while adapting to changing priorities. Ability to work effectively both as a collaborative team member and as a leader. Knowledge of computer systems and software used in accounting and financial reporting. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in the health care industry is a strong plus. Experience with capital project review and reporting. Background in financial reporting, including preparation of internal and external reports. Experience with data entry related to accounting and financial systems. Comfort working with financial and statistical data for analysis and reporting purposes. Interest in leveraging technology and automation tools to improve accounting processes. Work Environment This is a remote role, offering the flexibility to work from your own location while collaborating virtually with the finance team. The assignment is structured as a 12-month engagement, providing the opportunity to contribute to ongoing accounting and financial reporting activities over an extended period. You will work extensively with Workday, Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), and automation tools within the Microsoft ecosystem. The environment emphasizes accuracy, collaboration, and clear communication, with a focus on meeting reporting deadlines and maintaining compliance with GAAP and regulatory requirements. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Palo Alto, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $37.13 - $74.53/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
