Accounting, Finance & Tax Operations
Are you a detail-oriented accounting professional with experience handling day-to-day finance and accounting activities? Our client is looking for a Senior Accountant to support the company’s accounting, tax, reporting, cash flow, and financial operations while helping maintain accurate records and strong financial processes.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Transition & Set-Up
Support the handover from the outsourced accounting firm, including prior-year records, open tax positions, and audit files.
Support the selection, implementation, or upgrade of accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Zoho Books, or Xero.
Help maintain finance policies and procedures covering approvals, purchasing, expense claims, petty cash, and document retention.
Accounting & Bookkeeping
Maintain complete and accurate books in line with IFRS (or IFRS for SMEs) and Nigerian regulatory requirements.
Support the month-end close, including bank, supplier, and customer reconciliations.
Manage accounts payable and receivable, including client invoicing against project milestones and debt collection.
Track inventory and equipment, including stock held for projects and for the Experience Center.
Project & Job Costing
Maintain project-level accounting to track budgets, actual costs, margins, and work in progress.
Support correct revenue recognition on multi-stage projects, including deposits, milestone billing, and retentions.
Provide sales and project teams with cost and margin information for quotes and bills of quantities.
Tax & Statutory Compliance
Prepare and file company taxes on time, including Companies Income Tax, VAT, Withholding Tax, development levy, and other applicable taxes under current Nigerian tax laws.
Handle PAYE and payroll statutory deductions with the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), as well as pension, NHF, NSITF, and ITF remittances.
Support relationships with the Nigeria Revenue Service (formerly FIRS), LIRS, and other agencies, including audits, queries, and tax clearance certificates.
Keep CAC annual returns and other statutory filings current.
Stay updated on tax reforms and support the founders with information on their impact and legitimate tax planning.
Treasury, Cash & Imports
Prepare weekly and monthly cash flow forecasts and support banking activities.
Support foreign currency requirements for imported equipment, including Form M, letters of credit, FX purchases, and supplier payments.
Work with clearing agents on import duties and landed costs to ensure product pricing reflects the true cost.
Monitor FX exposure on naira-priced contracts with foreign-currency costs.
Reporting, Budgeting & Analysis
Prepare monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, project margins, and debtor ageing.
Support the annual budgeting process and track performance against the budget.
Provide financial information and analysis on pricing, profitability by service line, and investment decisions.
Support the annual external audit and preparation of audited financial statements.
Controls & People
Maintain internal controls that protect cash, stock, and assets, with clear segregation of duties.
Handle payroll processing accurately and confidentially.
Support the recruitment and development of finance staff as the team grows.
Ideal Candidate Profile
B.Sc. or HND in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
ICAN or ACCA qualification is required.
CITN (tax) membership is a strong advantage.
Minimum of 2+ years’ experience in accounting and finance.
Hands-on experience with Nigerian tax compliance, including CIT, VAT, WHT, and PAYE.
Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, Zoho Books, or Xero.
Experience with import-related accounting, FX, or letters of credit is an advantage.
Experience with project or contract accounting is a strong advantage.
Experience working within an SME or growing business is desirable.
Skills & Competencies
Good understanding of IFRS and current Nigerian tax laws.
Good Excel skills and proficiency with at least one cloud accounting package.
Strong attention to detail and good organisational skills.
Ability to work independently and maintain accurate financial records.
High integrity and discretion when handling financial and payroll information.
Good communication skills and ability to explain financial information clearly.
