Put your accounting expertise to work. Help shape what comes next.

At Acuity Insights, we’re strengthening our accounting operations, improving our systems, and finding better ways to work. We’re looking for an experienced accountant who can take on complex work independently and help us build a stronger, more effective accounting function.

As our Senior Accountant, you’ll own significant areas of the accounting cycle, from close and financial reporting to revenue, reconciliations, and audit readiness. You’ll also help strengthen the accuracy and reliability of our financial and business reporting, including recurring revenue metrics, while contributing accounting insights to budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.

You’ll work closely with our Controller and alongside a small accounting team, bringing the judgment to work through complex accounting questions, identify root causes, and see issues through to resolution. Your experience will also help strengthen the team through shared knowledge, guidance, and better ways of working.

There’s plenty to improve and build. We’re preparing for a new accounting system, exploring automation and AI, and reducing the manual work that slows us down. You’ll have the opportunity to lead meaningful improvements while helping make our accounting processes more reliable and scalable.

If you enjoy solving complex accounting problems, sharing what you know, and finding better ways to get things done, there’s a lot here for you to contribute.

Before you apply: This is a fully remote role open to candidates anywhere in Canada. We’re hiring for an existing, open position. You’re welcome to use AI thoughtfully when preparing your application and conversations with our team. Just make sure what you share reflects your own experience, thinking, and judgment. During live conversations, please don’t use AI to generate responses unless invited to do so.

The Work You’ll Do

In your first few weeks, you’ll get to know Acuity’s business, current accounting systems, processes, and controls, working alongside our Controller and accounting team to understand how things work today and where we can improve.

We’re working toward a five-business-day close, and you’ll play an important role in helping us get there.

Own complex accounting work

You’ll own significant areas of the accounting cycle, including complex journal entries and reconciliations, month-end and year-end close, financial reporting, and audit support. You’ll also review reconciliations and supporting schedules prepared by the team, investigate unusual items, and ensure the close is complete and ready for Controller review.

When accounting questions are complex or something doesn’t reconcile, you’ll dig into the details, investigate root causes, and use sound judgment to recommend the right path forward. Your work will help us build a faster, more reliable close supported by strong processes and controls.

Strengthen revenue accounting and reporting

You’ll provide senior-level review and oversight of revenue accounting, including revenue recognition, deferred revenue, reconciliations, and related reporting. Working with teammates responsible for invoicing, receivables, and recurring revenue schedules, you’ll connect business activity with accounting records.

You’ll review accounting outputs, investigate discrepancies, and resolve complex or unusual transactions. You’ll help ensure revenue is recognized appropriately, supporting schedules reconcile to the general ledger, and financial and business reporting is accurate and reliable..

Turn accounting information into reliable financial insight

You’ll help ensure the accounting information behind our financial and business reporting is accurate, consistent, and reliable, including the preparation and reconciliation of recurring revenue metrics.

You’ll contribute accounting insights and historical context to financial analysis, budgeting, and forecasting, helping the business make informed decisions. You’ll also support cash management through short-term cash forecasting, cash flow variance analysis, and visibility into upcoming cash requirements.

Help modernize our accounting systems

We’re preparing to move to a new accounting platform. You’ll contribute your accounting expertise to the transition, from defining requirements and improving workflows to data validation, testing, and migration.

You’ll also have opportunities to take ownership of meaningful improvements that make our systems and processes more efficient, reliable, and easier to use.

Improve how Accounting works

You’ll look beyond your own responsibilities to identify recurring problems, unnecessary manual work, and opportunities to simplify processes, strengthen controls, and use automation or AI thoughtfully.

You’ll help turn those opportunities into practical improvements, while strengthening documentation, sharing knowledge, and building better coverage across the team.

The goal is an accounting function that spends less time moving information around and more time on the work where expertise and judgment matter.

Who You’ll Work With and How

You’ll report to our Controller and work alongside a small team of accountants. You’ll have meaningful ownership of your work while sharing knowledge, solving problems together, and helping strengthen how Accounting operates.

Accounting connects to almost every part of Acuity, so you’ll work closely with people across the business:

  • Your Accounting teammates, to work through complex questions, share expertise, strengthen coverage, and improve how the team works.
  • Revenue Operations, to connect contracts, billing, revenue, and the information that supports accurate financial reporting.
  • People & Culture, on payroll, employee-related accounting, and the processes that connect our teams.
  • Leaders and budget owners, to understand the context behind transactions, resolve accounting questions, and support reliable financial information.
  • External partners, including auditors and other Finance partners, to support reporting, compliance, and audit readiness.

You’ll work with a high degree of independence, but not in isolation. You’ll know when to make decisions, when to bring others in, and how to build trust through clear communication, sound judgment, and reliable follow-through.

What Success Looks Like

In your first three months, you’ll build an understanding of Acuity’s business, accounting cycle, systems, and controls. You’ll begin taking ownership of key accounting responsibilities, building relationships across the business, and identifying opportunities to improve how work gets done.

By six months, you’ll independently own significant areas of the accounting cycle, confidently work through complex reconciliations and accounting questions, and identify issues before they become problems. You’ll also begin turning improvement opportunities into practical changes.

By the end of your first year, you’ll be a trusted source of accounting expertise, handling complex work with minimal guidance and contributing improvements beyond your own responsibilities. Your impact will be visible in stronger processes, better controls, and greater shared knowledge and coverage across Accounting.

How You’ll Succeed

You’ll likely thrive here if you:

  • Take ownership. You follow work through to resolution, surface issues early, and take responsibility for accurate, reliable outcomes.
  • Look beyond the numbers. You investigate discrepancies, ask questions, and connect the dots to understand what’s really happening.
  • Balance judgment with momentum. You respect accounting standards and controls while knowing when to make decisions, move forward, or bring others in.
  • Look for better ways of working. You notice unnecessary complexity and manual effort, finding practical opportunities to improve processes, systems, and controls.
  • Share what you know. You document your work, offer guidance, and help build stronger knowledge and coverage across Accounting.
  • Use technology thoughtfully. You explore how systems, automation, and AI can improve your work, applying the same judgment and care you’d bring to any accounting decision.
  • Are comfortable building while doing. You work effectively as processes evolve, bringing structure to your own work while helping strengthen how Accounting operates.

As the Finance function evolves, you’ll have opportunities to deepen your expertise, take on broader ownership, and contribute to larger systems and process improvements.

Experience That Will Help You Hit the Ground Running

You’ll bring strong technical accounting expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to independently own complex work. Your experience will include:

  • Independently owning significant areas of month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, working papers, and general ledger accounting.
  • Preparing or supporting financial reporting, ensuring the underlying accounting records are accurate, complete, and well supported.
  • Working across revenue recognition, invoicing, receivables, or other core accounting activities, with an understanding of how they connect through the accounting cycle.
  • Investigating complex accounting questions and discrepancies, applying accounting principles and professional judgment to determine the right path forward.
  • Supporting external audits and maintaining strong documentation, controls, and audit readiness.
  • Improving accounting processes, workflows, or systems to reduce manual work, strengthen reliability, and make the work more efficient.
  • Working independently in evolving environments, knowing when to make decisions, collaborate, or escalate.

Additional experience that would be valuable: Recurring revenue reporting, deferred revenue, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, or accounting system implementations.

Our current Finance systems include Xero, Dext, Airwallex, Plooto, and Stripe. You don’t need experience with these specific tools, but you should be comfortable working with cloud-based accounting systems and learning new technology.

A CPA designation, or progress toward one, is an asset but not required. Equivalent expertise developed through experience is equally valued.

What Happens After You Apply

We review every application carefully. Whether you apply directly, are referred, or connect through a recruiter or hiring manager, you’ll receive equal consideration.

We don’t use AI to evaluate applications, though you may be automatically screened out if you don’t meet baseline requirements (e.g. Canadian residency and valid work authorization). In some interviews, AI may help with note-taking, but all evaluations and decisions are made by real humans.

Our interviews are two-way conversations. We want to understand your career, abilities, and goals, and help you assess whether this opportunity and team are the right fit for you.

Steps in the Process

Our hiring process typically takes 2–4 weeks from initial conversation to final decision.

  • Application Review. A real person reviews your application for potential fit.
  • Intro Conversation. A conversation with a member of our Talent team to learn about your career journey, what you’re looking for next, and to introduce you to Acuity, Casper, and the role.
  • Conversation with the Manager. You’ll meet our Controller to explore the accounting work you’ve owned, how you approach complex problems, and the decisions you’ve made along the way. If you have an example of real work you’re proud of and can share, bring it along. It could be a process you’ve improved or a way you’ve used technology, automation, or AI to work more effectively. No need to prepare anything new or formal. It’s an opportunity to share how you approached the work, the judgment you applied, and what you learned.
  • Team Conversations. You’ll meet a few of the people you’d work with closely to explore how you collaborate, solve problems, and improve ways of working, while getting a better feel for what working together would be like.
  • Decision. The hiring manager reviews feedback from the interview team and typically makes a decision within 2 to 4 business days.
  • Offer & Reference Checks. If it’s a match, we’ll move to references and a formal offer.
