About Penbrothers Penbrothers is an HR & remote talent management partner and one of the fastest-growing companies in the Philippines. We provide talented Filipinos with global opportunities in high-growth startups and dynamic companies, from the comfort of their own homes.
About the Client
The Client was founded in 2012 and is headquartered in Berlin, Germany. It operates primarily as an online retailer, rather than a traditional physical luxury-watch boutique. The company describes itself as an international luxury-watch business focused on buying, selling, and sourcing exceptional timepieces.
About the Role
We are seeking an autonomous, detail-oriented Accountant to join our team on a full-time, permanent remote basis. In this role, you will lead day-to-day preparatory bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable workflows, and transaction reconciliations. You will serve as the core internal finance point of contact, collaborating directly with executive leadership (reporting directly to the CEO) and coordinating closely with our external German tax advisor (Steuerberater).
What you’ll do
- Inbox & Query Management: Monitor and manage incoming requests, correspondence, and operational inquiries via the centralized finance inbox.
- Accounts Payable Processing: Review, verify, and process vendor/incoming invoices using MOSS.
- Credit Card & Expense Management: Reconcile corporate credit card transactions, receipts, and supporting expense documentation in MOSS.
- Accounts Receivable & Service Billing: Generate and issue manual service invoices through easyBill (approximately 1–5 invoices per month).
- Preparatory Bookkeeping & System Data Imports: Prepare, balance, and format data imports for bank feeds, payment gateways/tools, and accounts receivable, booking and posting entries into DATEV.
- Payments & Cash Flow Support: Execute vendor/operational disbursements and assist management with daily liquidity planning.
- Reporting & Closing Preparations: Organize preparatory documentation and schedules for monthly financial reviews and assist the external tax consultant with year-end closing requirements as requested.
- Tax Advisory & Leadership Coordination: Work under the guidance of our external German tax advisor (Steuerberater) for regulatory filings while reporting internally to the CEO.
What You Bring
- Relevant Accounting Experience: At least 3+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience with solid exposure to German GAAP (HGB / Handelsbilanz) or European accounting standards.
- EU VAT & Tax Knowledge: Practical understanding of European Union VAT structures, intra-community transactions, and margin taxation schemes.
- Software Adaptability: Digitally savvy with the ability to quickly master cloud accounting platforms and finance tools (e.g., MOSS, easyBill, DATEV), with an openness to integrating AI tools into daily workflows.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in professional written and spoken English.
- Mindset & Autonomy: Strong attention to detail, a structured approach to recurring accounting cycles, and the initiative to work independently in a remote environment.
- Collaborative Ownership: Proactive team player with good problem-solving instincts who takes full ownership of assigned workflows and identifies operational improvements.
Nice to Have
- Hands-on experience with DATEV accounting software.
- Basic understanding of German business terminology or German language skills (A2/B1 level).
- Prior experience working within an e-commerce, luxury retail, or international trading environment.
