Senior Accountant (US Experience)

Senior Accountant (US Client) Location: South Africa Johannesburg: hybrid, with regular in office collaboration Other locations in SA: fully remote About the role We are looking for a Senior Accountant with a strong accounting knowledge and understanding, based in South Africa to partner with a US client and support their end to end accounting function. You will be employed by GCO Partners and embedded in the clients team, providing high quality financial reporting, insight and control while working in an environment that values people, performance and progress. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning the numbers, collaborating across borders, and using their US experience to add real value, not just tick boxes. Key responsibilities Prepare and maintain accurate financial records, including general ledger entries, reconciliations and financial statements. Manage accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely processing and payment. Perform monthly, quarterly and year end closings and related reporting activities. Assist in the preparation of budgets and financial forecasts. Conduct financial analysis and provide insights to support decision making. Ensure compliance with US GAAP and other relevant regulatory requirements. Partner with internal and external auditors during audits and reviews. Use QuickBooks Online for day to day accounting and financial management. Contribute to the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures. Support and guide junior accounting staff where needed. What you bring Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field. CA(SA) preferred. Minimum 4 to 7 years of relevant experience as an accountant for US entities, including practical exposure to US GAAP and US based stakeholders. Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and related accounting standards. Proven experience with QuickBooks Online. Solid accounting track record with accurate and timely reporting. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with strong attention to detail. Clear, confident communication skills and the ability to build relationships in virtual teams. Ability to work independently, take ownership and collaborate within a distributed team. Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
