  • Clerk Grade: 9/10 with Salary package includes a base salary range of $133,348 - $146,945 plus superannuation and annual leave loading.

About the role

  • As Senior Advisor AI & Data in the NSW GovAI office, you will design and manage trusted AI data assets that enable agencies and partners to build and assess responsible AI solutions. You’ll apply evolving data governance standards, experiment with AI tools, and advise on safe, scalable data use across all AI office workstreams.

  • Your work ensures data used in AI is high-quality, secure, and fit-for-purpose - supporting NSW’s transition to AI-enabled government. You’ll bring a strong mix of analytical skills, technical expertise, and stakeholder engagement to help shape the future of AI through better data.

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • AI Data Asset Development: Design, manage, and maintain high-value data assets that enable agencies and partners to build risk compliant solutions.
  • Data Governance Leadership: Advise on and implement data governance frameworks that support responsible AI, aligned with emerging standards, ethical practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • AI Experimentation and Innovation: Actively experiment with generative AI and AI agents to explore innovative use cases, assess risk, and inform responsible adoption.
  • Cross-Stream Advisory: Provide expert advice to the AI office across all workstreams—supporting policy development, AI use guidance, organisational readiness, and scaling strategies.
  • Data Quality and Integrity Oversight: Lead data cleaning, validation, and quality control activities to ensure accurate, secure, and compliant use of data in AI office solutions.
  • Data Insight and Analysis: Analyse complex datasets to identify trends and opportunities, producing clear insights to inform AI strategies, standards, and agency support materials.
  • Tooling and Reporting: Develop and implement data systems, templates, and dashboards to support transparency, performance tracking, and continuous improvement of the AI office.

Who we are

The NSW GovAI Office leads and coordinates the safe, responsible, and effective use of AI across government. It supports agencies to confidently adopt AI by providing guardrails, strategic advice, and capability support.

The team:

  • Defines safe AI use boundaries through clear policies, standards, and compliance expectations.
  • Identifies and publishes high-risk AI use cases and runs simulations to uncover hidden risks.
  • Supports agencies to trial AI through labs and expert access, enabling practical adoption.
  • Provides strategic advice on AI capabilities and transition planning to AI-enabled operations.
  • Drives consistent, responsible adoption of AI technologies to improve service delivery while ensuring fairness, transparency, and safety for the people of NSW.
