Nationwide Financial Technology-Annuity is seeking a hands-on Software Engineer to design, build and support business‑critical applications within a complex, integrated technology environment. This role blends modern application development with strong accountability for delivery quality, operational stability and continuous improvement.

The ideal candidate is expected to aply sound engineering judgment while responsibly leveraging AI‑enabled tools to improve development efficiency, system reliability and security outcomes. Work is performed in close collaboration with engineers, architects and product partners to deliver resilient, scalable solutions aligned with evolving engineering and risk standards.

Key responsibilities

• Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards in an agile environment.

• Develop, enhance, and support applications across web, API, and batch‑oriented systems, maintaining accountability for the quality and reliability of delivered work.

• Diagnose and resolve complex production and integration issues using strong analytical and root‑cause analysis skills.

• Contribute to release and operational readiness activities, including validation support, monitoring, and post‑release follow‑up.

• Apply modern and secure software engineering practices including AI‑assisted development and security techniques to improve solution quality, efficiency and resiliency

Skills & Experience

• Total Exp 3-5 years. Relevant 3+ years' experience

• Experience delivering and supporting enterprise applications across development, release and production support.

• Experience with modern and legacy application stacks, including APIs, web frameworks, databases and integrations (Python, Java, Angular, Spring Boot).

• Proficiency with AWS, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines, monitoring tools and vulnerability management.

• Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work through ambiguity in cross‑team environments.

• Drives continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice and innovation.

• Ability to operate effectively in fast‑paced, operationally focused settings.

• Exposure to AI‑enabled tools for development, troubleshooting, automation and security.

• COBOL or IBM ACE experience is a plus.

As a Data Engineer you’ll be responsible for acquiring, curating, and publishing data for analytical or operational uses. Data should be in a ready-to-use form that creates a single version of the truth across all data consumers, including business users, data scientists, and Technology. Ready-to-use data can be for both real time and batch data processes and may include unstructured data. Successful data engineers have the skills typically required for the full lifecycle software engineering development from translating requirements into design, development, testing, deployment, and production maintenance tasks. You’ll have the opportunity to work with various technologies from big data, relational and SQL databases, unstructured data technology, and programming languages.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

• Provides technical consultation on data product projects by analyzing end-to-end data product requirements and existing business processes to assist in the design, development and implementation of data products.

• Translates business data stories into a technical story breakdown structure and work estimate so value and fit for a schedule or sprint is determined.

• Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

• Develops and maintains scalable data pipelines for both streaming and batch requirements.

• Assists in building out new API integrations to support continuing increases in data volume and complexity.

• Practices code management and integration with engineering Git principle and practice repositories.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:
Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, business, statistics, math, a related field or comparable experience and education strongly preferred. Graduate studies in business, statistics, math, computer science or a related field are a plus.

Experience:

One to three years of relevant experience with data quality rules, data management organization/standards, or practices. Experience with query languages, statistical software and data wrangling and provisioning tools. Experience analysing trends and patterns in structured and unstructured data to support business problem solving.
