Introduction:
At Gilchrist Connell, we're building something genuinely special.
We've won major new clients, our Financial Lines practice continues to grow, and we're looking for a Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join the team and play an important role in its next phase.
You'll work directly with Principals and leading clients on complex, high-value Financial Lines matters, while taking ownership of files, shaping strategy and helping guide matters from first instruction through to resolution.
The practice acts across a broad mix of professional indemnity, directors' and officers' liability, class actions, and other Financial Lines claims. Depending on your experience, you'll lead key matters, provide clear and commercial advice, manage stakeholder expectations and help deliver consistently strong outcomes for clients.
This is an opportunity to combine hands-on legal work with client relationship management, mentoring and practice development. You'll have the autonomy expected at this level, backed by approachable senior leaders and a collaborative national team, with scope to influence how matters are run and contribute ideas that strengthen the broader practice.
Whether you're an established Special Counsel or a Senior Associate ready to step into broader responsibility, you'll be given the platform to deepen your expertise, build trusted client relationships and contribute meaningfully to the continued growth of the practice.
Description:
Why GC?
Because careers don't grow by accident.
We invest heavily in our people, provide direct access to senior leaders and create an environment where talented lawyers can do their best work and enjoy doing it.
You'll get:
About You
You're a Senior Associate or Special Counsel with strong experience in Financial Lines, insurance litigation or complex commercial disputes. You'll be comfortable taking carriage of sophisticated matters, working directly with clients and making considered strategic decisions, and you're looking for a role where your judgement, initiative and leadership will be valued.
You're technically excellent, commercially minded and confident managing complex matters and client relationships with a high degree of autonomy. You communicate clearly, exercise sound judgement and enjoy finding practical solutions to difficult issues.
You'll also bring a collaborative approach to leadership, supporting junior lawyers, sharing knowledge and contributing to a positive team environment. An interest in business development, strengthening client partnerships and helping grow the practice will be highly regarded.
A Place Where You Can Be Yourself
Candidates can request reasonable adjustments for any part of the recruitment process. If you need any specific adjustment, please contact our People team so we can work together to support you.
We encourage applications from individuals of diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to First Nations, LGBTIQA+, persons with disabilities, as well as individuals of all ages, and cultures. We're a safe, inclusive, and equitable workplace and celebrate the diversity of our people.
